Leica now with Xiaomi

Xiaomi held a big presentation in China this week, where the manufacturer showed a scattering of products. You have probably already read about the new items in our news, as well as in our material following the event:

New items from Xiaomi's big presentation

4 flagship smartphones from Xiaomi and the new version, as well as the pro version of Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro.

Here I would like to single out only two newcompany devices. The first is the flagship smartphone Xiaomi 12S Ultra, a device that was talked about a lot both before and after the presentation. And there really is something to talk about, for example, about the design of the rear panel of the device (in front we have, as usual, a solid display) with a huge, strongly protruding round camera block and the rest of the panel, covered with eco-leather. But everything new is a well-forgotten old. So, the round block of the camera resembles the old ones, then they were experimental solutions from Samsung, and there is also something from Nokia devices. But eco-leather was used earlier in LG smartphones. But in general, if you do not find fault, Xiaomi can be praised, finally we got something really original. True, there are questions about the strongly protruding camera block, it seems to me that it can be damaged inadvertently. Should I put a case on my device? But why do we need a leather back panel if we have to hide it? And with such a camera unit, how massive will the device become in a case, so that the sides protect the lens?

Camera - here you can clearly see how, together withThe marketing department worked closely with the designers and engineers of the company on the device. To assemble the camera block into a massive and attention-grabbing element is clearly the marketers’ effort, as, indeed, they invited the German Leica as a partner in order to get a well-known logo that immediately significantly adds to the price of the product for rent. Moreover, the stars this time agreed so that in addition to Leica, Xiaomi also got access to the new Sony IMX989 inch sensor, which also adds weight to the product and makes it more expensive. On this, by the way, Xiaomi leaves, promoting the product - sticks out a new sensor from Sony and publishes examples of photos taken by the 12th series of smartphones, under each of which the logo of a German company flaunts.

And it seems that Xiaomi is haunted by the laurels of Apple, sothat the Chinese, both before the presentation and within it, advertised their own chips - Xiaomi Surge P1 and Xiaomi Surge G1. True, these are not processors, like the same A15 Bionic from the "apple" company. The first is responsible for fast charging of the device, the second is for energy efficiency while the device is running. Nothing special, but how much pathos.

The price of the new Xiaomi 12S Ultra in native Chinesemarket starts at 5,999 yuan, today it is about 58,000 rubles. But these are local versions, when and if the product is still released on the European market, prices will be much higher.

I do not want to say that the new Xiaomi flagship is badand consists only of marketing gimmicks. It has modern hardware, a high-quality display, a new camera module, and, according to company representatives, Leica is not only here with a logo on the body of the device, but also with a huge joint work done as part of product development. I'm just not sure that the smartphone can easily stand on a par with the flagships of the same Apple, Google and Samsung, especially in terms of photography, not to mention the fact that the 12S Ultra will push one of the mastodons. This is just a high-quality smartphone with good features and an adequate price in the home market.

Yes, we published this article about cameras in smartphones this week:

sensory fever

About another attempt to make a full-fledged DSLR camera out of a smartphone.

The second must-have productto mention, this is the new Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro fitness bracelet. Apparently, the company's marketers again intervened in the processes, who proposed to release, in addition to the most popular Xiaomi device, another variation, so to speak, its extended version. Thus, the symbiosis of the Smart Band 7 bracelet and smart watches was born. From the first, the novelty inherited almost all the features, and from the second received a larger screen of 1.64 inches with a resolution of 456x280 pixels and built-in GPS (GLONASS is also supported). In general, Xiaomi decided to pinch off a piece from the market of smart bracelets from other manufacturers, which practically lost ground in the regular segment dominated by the Smart Band, but still felt confident in the segment of such devices at the junction with smart watches. And then Xiaomi came along and offered the Smart Band 7 Pro with a larger screen and GPS, and for only $58 in the home market.

We also got the experience of operating Smart Band 6:

Tele2 made friends with GFN

Tele2 operator has launched a new service - "CloudGFN games", which allows you to play modern games on any hardware. The cost of the service is 1,499 rubles per month, while subscribers of the Game tariff plan receive a discount. The new service is available to users in all regions.

What is interesting about this news isease of payment for the service for subscribers of the operator directly from the mobile phone account, so there is no need to enter your card details anywhere, plug and play. It will also be interesting for subscribers who have the “Game” tariff activated, since for them the service will cost 999 rubles per month, that is, it will save a lot.

In general, such cooperation between Tele2 and GFN looks likevery attractive for both the operator and the service in terms of promoting cloud gaming. I myself tried GFN and enjoyed playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla on iPad and iPhone through it, connecting an Xbox controller to the latter, very interesting.

A detailed article about Tele2 and GFN was published on our website this week:

Operator news: new Tele2 tariff

It seems that the new tariff from Tele2 looks like a great reason to throw a gamepad into your backpack so that you always have it at hand.

Compact smartphone from Asus

During the week, new information was leaked to the networksmartphone Asus Zenfone 9. The device will receive a 5.9 "FHD AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, a main camera with a 50 MP Sony IMX766 module. The battery in the device is 4300 mAh, there is a 3.5 mm jack and IP68 protection.

A little later, the company itself published an official video on the product, saying that it would be presented soon.

Smartphone Asus Zenfone 9 turned out prettyremarkable, this applies to both design and performance. In addition, the device will receive a 5.9-inch screen, so it will be quite compact. Perhaps the manufacturer could have put a larger battery in the device, yet 4300 mAh is not so much, but we'll see, perhaps with battery life not everything will be so bad. In general, we are waiting for the official presentation of the product and its prices.

Chinese "Moskvich"

This week, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin visitedthe Moskvich plant, where he was shown models that are supposed to be put on the conveyor in the near future. It will be three crossovers and a sedan with an internal combustion engine, as well as one electric car. All new Moskvichs are converted models of the Chinese automaker JAC, which at first will be assembled using the SKD method, and later it is planned to switch to full-cycle assembly.

I personally do not mind that at the former facilitiesRenault plans to assemble new Chinese cars, but it is embarrassing that they plan to produce them under the Moskvich brand. Why this is necessary is not entirely clear. Give/sell the capacities of JAC, let them quickly localize the assembly of their own cars there so that the conveyor does not stand idle and the shortage of cars in the country is covered, and then it’s better to do a joint project with them and release a truly original model under the Moskvich brand.

Produce cars under a domestic brandpatriotic and there will be more demand from buyers? I strongly doubt that buyers will soon have more questions - what kind of model, how is it with quality, who is the original manufacturer, where to get parts. Yes, and it’s easier to promote products like JAC, when everything is simple and clear, and any publication / expert will be able to explain that this is a fairly large Chinese automaker that sells its models all over the world.

Here, by the way, is the original model of the JAC electric car, presented here as "Model 1". The Chinese successfully sell it under their own brand in the Mexican market.

Of the interesting auto news, it is also worth noting that only the Chinese brand Exeed managed to avoid falling in the first half of this year on the Russian market. Well done Chinese, they are trying.

And here is our latest Exeed TXL test:
