Samsung's future flexible flagship Galaxy Z Fold5 could use a new hinge design
Samsung's future flexible flagship Galaxy Z Fold5 may use a new hinge design that
will reduce the visible wrinkle on the screen andmake the screen more durable. The teardrop hinge will allow the screen to take on a “teardrop” shape, allowing for a smoother curve when closing the screen. By the fourth generation of the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has managed to noticeably improve the hinge design, but the visible crease in the screen still remains. The latest generation uses a U-bend, which creates a noticeable wrinkle and increases the strain on the screen. Samsung received a patent for the waterdrop hinge back in 2016, but didn't use it because they wanted to ensure a high level of water resistance for their flexible smartphones, which is a significant difference from other flexible smartphones on the market.
