Samsung may announce mass production of 3nm chip next week

Samsung Electronics Co. is expected to will announce mass production of 3nm semiconductors at the next

week ahead of its rival TSMC, reportsKorean portal Yonhap News Agency, citing its own sources. The next generation of 3nm chips will be built on Gate-All-Around (GAA) technology, which will reduce the area by up to 45 percent, while providing a 30 percent increase in performance and a 50 percent reduction in power consumption compared to the current process technology.

South Korean tech giantshowed off its 3nm chips to US President Joe Biden last month when he visited Samsung's Pyeongtaek facility, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturing plant, located about 70 kilometers south of Seoul. At the same time, TSMC - the largest contract chip manufacturer - said that it will begin mass production of 3nm chips in the second half of 2022.
