Korean flagship smartphoneAfter a long wait, the high-tech giant Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra received a full and comprehensive analysis of the capabilities of the cameras, performed by the DxOMark test lab. The results were somewhat disappointing for a device selling at a considerable price, positioning itself as an innovative gadget with advanced technologies and the most powerful sensors. Smartphone S20 Ultra was able to take only sixth place in the global ranking of photographic capabilities of smartphones. At the same time, the Korean flagship caught up with the HONOR V30 Pro.

DxOMark experts choose S20 Ultra from the newSamsung's lineup, which also includes the S20 and S20 Plus models, thanks to a powerful assembly for the main camera based on four sensors, including the top-end sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels (f / 1.8) with a 1 / 1.33 matrix. The sensor uses proprietary technology combining nine adjacent pixels into one, which increases the detail of the final image coming out in a resolution of 12 megapixels.

Also, the Galaxy S20 Ultra quad camera receivedan additional sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels (f / 2.0) with a focal length of 103 mm and a telephoto lens. The Galaxy S20 Ultra camera has the ability to shoot 8K video at 24 frames per second, and 4K at 60 frames per second.

Such a set of sensors, according to expertsDxOMark makes the S20 Ultra Samsung’s most powerful smartphone for taking photos today. In assessing the quality of photographs and videos, 1,600 images and 2 hours of video files were involved. The shooting was carried out both indoors and outdoors, both in normal and in low light.

Among the positive points in the assessmentphoto capabilities, DxOMark experts note high color rendering quality, wide dynamic range, well-controlled noise level, good exposure and color reproduction when using a wide-angle lens, and a high level of detail.

Among the shortcomings, experts notedslow autofocus in low light conditions, the appearance of artifacts when using the zoom, problems with calculating the white balance when shooting indoors and outdoors. Using the night mode leads to underexposure and quantization of light.

When testing the shooting capabilities of the video wasIt is noted that the camera works well in low light, does not create digital noise and has high-quality color reproduction. The high efficiency of the stabilization algorithm used in the camera was particularly praised by specialists. Among the shortcomings in the video shooting of the S20 Ultra, experts noted a narrow dynamic range in conditions of high contrast, the predominance of red shades when shooting at night and an insufficient level of detail.

According to the results of the test capabilities S20 Ultra atsmartphone took 132 points for shooting, and for video the score was 102 points. In total, the flagship is estimated at 122 points and passes ahead Huawei P40 Pro (128), Honor 30 Pro + (125), Oppo Find X2 Pro (124), Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro (124) and Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G (123).
