Smartphone manufacturers are constantly working onincreasing the resolution of cameras to improve the quality of photos and videos. Samsung and Xiaomi have developed a new ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor with a phenomenal resolution of 108 megapixels. Serial production of cameras with unique sensors will begin in August 2019.

Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX Image Sensorgot a 1 / 1.33 inch sensor. Such technical capabilities will be first implemented for smartphones. The pixel size will be the same as the previously announced ISOCELL Bright GW1 with a resolution of 64 megapixels and will be 0.8 microns.

New cameras will be able to take photos withresolution 12032 x 9024 pixels, record video in 6K format (6016 x 3384) with a frequency of 30 fps. The increased size of the sensor allows you to capture reflected light even in low light. At the same time, the Smart-ISO function allows the sensor to rebuild in accordance with the lighting of the subject. Traditionally, Samsung’s sensors will use 4-in-1 integration technology for shooting in low light, which lowers the camera resolution to 27 megapixels.

Most likely, the first smartphones to receive a unique camera will be Xiaomi Mi Mix 4.
