Sales of content on DVD and Blu-ray Disc grew in Russia by 2.2 times

According to M.Video-Eldorado, in the period from March to September of the current year, sales of content on DVD

and Blu-ray Disc grew by 2.2 times compared to the results of the same period in 2021. The Ozon marketplace also confirms growth in sales of music and video on DVD and BD, according to them, sales of films on physical media grew by 16%, and music by 51%. Ozon says DVD player sales are up 40% year-on-year. The growing interest in the use of physical media is caused by the withdrawal of Western companies providing streaming services from the Russian market, as well as the reduction in the catalogs of music and films in Russian streaming services due to the refusal of copyright holders for content to provide it to Russian services. In connection with the events in Ukraine, Netflix, Spotify, Megogo services stopped working in Russia, and content providers Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Disney also left Russia.
