Roscosmos Delivers Japanese Billionaire Into Space With Uber Food Package

In May 2021, the Roscosmos corporation announcedwhich will send people on space tourism in December. It really happened - together with Space Adventures, it delivered two Japanese tourists to the ISS in the person of billionaire Yusaku Maedzawa and his operator Yozo Hirano. They were escorted by Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin, who spent 334 days at the station during his career and went into outer space four times. The guests of the ISS are expected to stay there for 12 days and then return to Earth. The tourists arrived far from empty-handed - in addition to several kilograms of payload, the Japanese businessman took with him a parcel from the Uber Eats meal delivery service. Now it can be called the first food courier in history to deliver a package into space.

The package with the delivered products containsJapanese miso soup, chicken, bamboo shoots, braised pork and beef. Apparently, ISS Commander Anton Shkaplerov was pleased with the delivery. In turn, the head of Uber Eats, Dara Khosrowshahi, reinterpreted the legendary words of Neil Armstrong about the first steps of a man to the moon:

Our goal is to help people go anywhere and get anything, which is why we are proud to have helped astronauts on the ISS.

At the same time, the entrepreneur noted that the delivery took 8 hours, while it usually takes about 30 minutes.

What is a tourist doing in space?

Yusaku Maezawa is one of the few people whoat the moment he allowed himself a flight into space. He is ranked 14th in the ranking of the richest people in Japan, so such flights are clearly affordable for him. He did not name the exact cost of the flight, but in an interview with the Associated Press shared that the flight will cost him approximately $ 80 million. It is possible that Uber Eats paid him part of the flight, but this is just an assumption - there is no exact data.
