Robotic arm taught to create works of art (video)

At the Institute of Robotics of the UniversityCarnegie Mellon has a new artist. FRIDA, a robotic arm with a brush glued to it, uses artificial intelligence to collaborate with humans on works of art.

Users can manage FRIDA by enteringa text description, providing other artwork to inspire his style, or uploading a photo and asking him to draw it. The team is also experimenting with other inputs, including audio. They played ABBA's "Dancing Queen" and asked FRIDA to draw it.

“FRIDA is not an artist,” said one of the authorswork. “FRIDA does not generate ideas. FRIDA is a system that an artist can collaborate with. An artist can set high-level goals for FRIDA, and then FRIDA can fulfill them.”

The robot uses AI models similar to those used in tools such as ChatGPT and DALL-E 2, which generate text or an image, respectively, in response to a text description.
