Not everyone can afford a laptop for 100 thousandrubles, and the HP Pavilion x360 14 (2019) is an example of a budget model with great features. In this review I will try to talk more about this device.

There are two versions of the new Pavilion x360 14: with an 8th generation quad-core processor, and a 10th generation chip. The first option, worth 36 thousand rubles, came to me for a review, it has 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD.

    Design and appearance

HP Pavilion x360 14 (2019) Notebook PC graybut there is no aluminum in the construction. If you need a metal case, you have to purchase a more expensive Specter x360. The cover here is unlikely to withstand strong pressure, like a keyboard, however, given the half the cost, this is bearable. This does not mean at all that the Pavilion x360 seems fragile or cheap - the device is quite reliable so as not to worry about it when working.

Pavilion x360 - a convertible laptop, and in addition tostandard form it can be used as a screen or tablet. An important detail of this type of device is the hinges, which are quite durable to hold a given shape and soft enough for a smooth rotation of the screen.

HP Pavilion x360 14 has an attractive design - onThere are several colors to choose from, including Natural Silver, Mineral Silver, Warm Gold, Sky Blue and Pale Gold. Each color, except the first, will cost you about 1000 rubles more. But, they are all equally attractive, have a metallic sheen and look good from any angle - that's all that HP fans are used to. Let the appearance here not reach the premium samples like Specter or Dell Inspiron 13, x360 and cost half as much.

However, there are clearly unsuccessful elements The upper and side frames are thin, but the bottom is huge. The Pavilion x360 case is very massive - 2 cm in thickness, weighing 1.58 kg. For a plastic laptop with a screen diagonal of 14 inches, this is a lot. For example, the metal Dell Inspiron 13 7000 has a thickness of only 1.6 cm and a mass of 1.4 kg. The weight of x360 14 (2019) is especially noticeable when used as a tablet. However, similar disadvantages are typical for this price segment.

    Display and sound

The weak point of budget laptops is the display, andAlas, the HP Pavilion x360 14 (2019) was no exception. Five years ago, such a Full HD screen was only on devices above the average, but now it is considered rather mediocre. The colors are too dull, covering only 62% sRGB and 48% AdobeRGB, so you will not see quite a large part of the color shades in their true form. The transmission accuracy here is just as lame as the contrast of the panel - it is below average and is 670: 1. The maximum brightness is 262 nits, which is also a very weak indicator.

I dare not claim that the Pavilion x360 display14 (2019) is terrible, but there are better options in the budget segment. For example, the same Aspire 5 - its colors are similar, but the contrast is higher, and working with black text on a white background will be much more pleasant. In general, the screen of the new x360 14 is sufficient for everyday tasks, and its gamma correction is 2.4 - close and ideal 2.2 for viewing media content.

But the sound is the strength of this model. The speakers have good volume, no wheezing and distortion at maximum levels. Not to say that Pavilion x360 14 is far superior to its competitors in this, but I can not complain about the quality of the audio.

    Ports and connectors

On inexpensive laptops, there are often manyconnectors. The HP Pavilion x360 14 (2019) was no exception: on the left side there is a USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, on the right is another USB-A, full-size HDMI, USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 and an SD card slot. There is no Thunderbolt 3 connector, so if you need it, you have to buy a laptop more expensive.

    Keyboard and input devices

Pavilion x360 14 (2019) inherited itsthe keyboard from the Specter line - they are almost the same. The keyboard is island-like, the color of the keys is the same as that of the case, and the letters are light but legible. Ergonomics when pressed are not the same as on the same Specter, but better in almost any budget model. The keyboard is one of the main advantages of the new x360 14.

The touchpad is wide, although there could be more - underthe keyboard has enough free space. In their latest models, HP switched to Microsoft Precision drivers, which improved their performance. Unlike devices with Synaptics drivers, the touchpad in Pavilion x360 14 is very accurate and convenient.

The laptop display is touch-sensitive, and this is anotheran aspect where differences from more expensive and even premium models almost disappear. The HP Active Pen is also included with the tenth-generation version.

You can log in to Windows through the fingerprint scanner, which is located to the right of the touchpad. This is rare in budget laptops, so this is a nice bonus.

    Iron productivity

In a more modest version of the HP Pavilion x360 14(2019) 8th Gen Intel Whiskey Lake Core i5-8265U processor installed. His testing showed good results - in Geekbench 4 the laptop scores about the same points as the much more expensive Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 with the same processor. Converting videos to other formats through Handbrake also happens a little faster on HP.

This transformer is great for everyone.standard tasks. You won’t be able to quickly mount a video or process a lot of photos on it, but ordinary applications like Word and Excel, surfing the Internet and watching videos will not cause problems.

Available with versions of Intel processors10th generation. For example, a model with a Core i5-10210U and a Full HD display (1920 × 1080) costs more than 40 thousand rubles, complete with a stylus. The Ice Lake Core i5 processor will be faster and more powerful. You can also choose the option with a faster PCIe SSD-drive instead of the usual 128 GB SATA. The difference in their speed is noticeable.

The only thing that definitely won't work on the x360 14 is to play modern games. The GPU Intel UHD 620 Graphics simply will not pull them.

    Autonomy HP Pavilion x360 14

Pavilion x360 14 (2019) fully justifiesits price in all respects, but it has one more drawback - work autonomy. This 2-in-1 model is not the toughest with respect to its rivals. With standard web surfing, the Pavilion x360 14 will work for about six and a half hours, while the Acer Aspire 5 with a 15.6-inch display from the same price category takes 9 hours.

In the video viewing mode, the HP laptop lastedon a single charge less than 11 hours, when Acer - 13 hours. In the most demanding Basemark Web x360 14 was able to barely stretch 2 hours, Aspire 5 worked for more than 3 and a half hours.

Obviously, autonomy is not the greatest strengthof this laptop, especially in the build with the 8th generation Core i5. With a 10-generation chipset, the result should be better, but you won’t be able to work on this laptop all day without recharging.

HP Pavilion x360 14 (2019) - good budgettransformer laptop, especially in the assembly with the processor of the 10th generation. We get high-quality materials, and the device itself looks pretty and has a large number of connectors. Yes, the battery is a little disappointing, so you won’t get it anywhere without a charger. But otherwise it is a great model for the money.

If you can afford something more expensive -There is a great option in the form of Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1. It has a metal case and a more premium look, although there are many other great models at its price - the same HP Specter x360 or Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. If you can’t go beyond the budget, look at the Acer Aspire 5 - the laptop has a larger display and a much more durable battery.

    Should I buy?

Perhaps Pavilion x360 14 (2019) is far from ideal, but it is inexpensive and solves all the tasks that a model should perform in this price segment.

    • Good performance.
    • Great keyboard to work with.
    • Attractive design and build quality.

    • The screen is dim.
    • Battery autonomy is disappointing.
