Widget from SocialMart

Over the past few years I have not testedless than 50 models of a variety of laptops. And I can say for sure what to do a review of a great laptop is clearly more interesting than a mediocre one. As an example, I will give Specter x360 13, which was released at the end of 2017. Then I thought he was the best 2-in-1 hybrid. Not surprisingly, I approached the HP Specter x360 13 (2019) review with great interest.

I managed to get Specter x360 13 (2019) onIntel Core i7-8565U 8-generation Whiskey Lake processor, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD drive. This configuration costs about 90 thousand rubles. Maximum with 16 GB of RAM, 2 TB SSD and LTE support will cost 150 thousand rubles already. But, did HP manage to keep the magic that this model always had?

    Design and construction

HP called the new Specter x360 13 (2019)"Cut diamond" and for a reason. Each facet here is designed to reflect light from all angles. And I'm not exaggerating. The edges of the lid, the sides of the case, the edges around the keyboard, the bottom of the case are all angled, with the result that the 2-in-1 laptop design looks like a gem. Even the speaker grilles have an angular pattern.

I like this look, although I understandthose who look at this laptop with doubt. But I also know how boring 2-in-1 hybrids can be. Recall at least LG Gram 14 and Lenovo Yoga C930.

So far, the HP Specter x360 13 (2019) is availableonly in the new color Poseidon Blue, which replaced the simple silver color, as well as in the conservative Dark Ash Silver. The tested 13-inch laptop is presented in this dark silver color.

Case back and bottom of the displayhave a kind of grooves, which adds a special style. At the same time, they are functional - on the left recess there is a power button (in a convenient place) that can be easily found and difficult to press by accident. There is one of the two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the right notch. When connected, the cable will be angled to the side, but the display will not switch to tablet mode.

Another functional change isThe fact that the laptop has become thicker by almost 1 mm. You will hardly notice, but this greatly improves thermal performance. The thickness of the new HP Specter x360 13 is about 1.45 cm and weighs 1.32 kg.

The side panels around the screen are relatively thin, however, the upper and lower panels cannot be compared with the same panels in more compact clamshell laptops, like the Dell XPS 13. However, in tablet mode, everything falls into place. As for the rigidity of the case, the laptop lid may slightly give in with pressure, although the keyboard is strong here.

    Laptop display

HP installed in the Specter x360 13 (2019) low-power1 Watt panel with Full HD resolution. By the way, this is the kind of display that HP Specter Folio has. The screen has good performance and significantly prolongs battery life. You can also choose a model with 4K display or Full HD with SureView technology.

Judging by the colorimeter, image qualityThe HP Specter x360 13 (2019) is very high. Contrast ratio - 1040: 1, allows you to leave behind most of the similar models 2-in-1. Even Surface Pro 6 and ThinkPad Z1 Yoga have less contrast (1000: 1). The color scheme is 73% in AdobeRGB, and the error is 1.27.

The screen brightness remains at 333 nits, althoughThe best results in the group are close to 400 nits. The gamma curve is close to ideal - 2.2, which means one thing - the display is very bright. The image will not be too dark or blurry.

This display is perfect for work and view any content. The color scheme allows you to work professionals who are important color accuracy.

    Data security

HP has improved HP Specter x360 laptop security13 (2019), we now have two ways to enter — using a fingerprint scanner or through face recognition with an infrared camera. For convenience, the fingerprint scanner was transferred from the side panel to the keyboard.

HP has joined companies that seekMaximum user protection against hacker attacks. The Specter x360 13 (2019) has a side webcam switch that completely turns off the camera and removes it from the system. Please note that this also applies to the infrared camera. When it is turned off, you can log in only by fingerprint or using a PIN code.

    Ports and connectors

What has not changed since the previous panel,so this is a variety of ports. There are 2 × USB-C ports with high-speed transmission up to 40 Gb / s, Thunderbolt 3, a USB-A 3.1 port and a microSD card slot. In addition, there is an Intel Wireless-AC module that provides reliable 2 × 2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. A separate option is the LTE module.

    Keyboard and touchpad

Convenient is essential for any laptop.keyboard, especially if you type thousands of words in hours. In fact, this is one of the most important factors when choosing. The HP Specter x360 13 (2019) is all right here, the keyboard has remained just as comfortable. For typing does not require too much pressure on the keys. But, their course has become a little more than the Yoga C930, Gram 14 and XPS 13, and the backlight has two brightness levels.

I noticed a strange thing, the Specter x360 touchpad13 (2019) there are problems with the Microsoft Precision drivers. The laptop stubbornly refused to work with them. In the end, I stayed on the Synaptics drivers. The touchpad is large here, and multitouch gestures work correctly and accurately. I would say purely subjectively that it was more pleasant for me to work with the XPS 13 touchpad.

    HP Pen Stylus

Included with this 2-in-1 laptop is an activeHP Pen stylus with touch recognition - up to 4096 degrees. Yes, it’s not as good as the Surface Pen at Surface Pro 6. However, if you need tilt sensitivity, you can get an HP Tilt Pen by spending an extra $ 80 ($ 5,200). It is also important that the styluses work on built-in rechargeable batteries that are charged via USB-C.

    Sound and its quality

The HP Specter x360 13 (2019) laptop has 4dynamics - two are installed in the bottom of the case, and two more under the display. This system is provided by Bang and Olufsen, so that it provides high quality.

The sound is loud, with expressive medium andtreble, and bass is better than most notebooks. Although at high volume the sound begins to distort, in general, for a compact notebook, this is an impressive audio system.

    Iron productivity

Specter x360 13 (2019) works on the newestIntel Whiskey Lake 8-generation processor. This is a great chip with high efficiency. In my version I installed a quad i7-8565U, which was enough for any task.

Although the performance was high, but notin excess of. In the Geekbench 4 single-core test, the laptop scored 5256 points, and 14417 in the multi-core test. This result is not enough to beat competitors such as Gram 14 and Yoga C930. In the more realistic Handbrake test, when converting 420 MB video to h.265, I had to wait 298 seconds. Gram 14 coped with the task in 283 seconds, and the XPS 13 for 270.

However, all of the above resultsObtained when the HP Specter x360 13 (2019) worked in the default mode. If you run the HP Command Center application, you can see that the system is operating in the recommended mode. But. there are also such modes as: Productive, Comfortable and Quiet.

Of course, in the performance modeincreases, while the fans accelerate (they are still quiet). So, in this mode, in the Handbrake test, the laptop already showed a result of 255 seconds.

After I turned the HP Specter x360 13 into silent modeand noticed that the fans did not even turn on, but at the same time there was enough performance for work or leisure. I did not notice the difference in power with the recommended mode, by default. For comparison, I also note that Specter x360 is more flexible in terms of performance tuning.

Above, I noted that thermal characteristicsSpecter x360 13 has been improved and it really is. During the stress test, the keyboard temperature did not cause discomfort - about 32 degrees, and the lower part of the body was only 42 degrees. For the most part, I left the laptop always in silent mode.

As for memory performance, then in HPSpecter x360 13 (2019) installed SSD-drive Western Digital PCIe, which in the test CrystalDiskMark showed decent results. The read speed was at the level of the best 2-in-1 models, and the write speed was generally one of the best.

In general, this laptop is suitable for demanding tasks, and you will probably understand at once that you want to buy it. Performance and noise management here is one of the advantages.

    Gaming performance

Here, alas, there are limitations. The Specter x360 13 (2019) has Intel UHD 620 graphics installed. As a result, the laptop is completely non-playable. The names of the entry-level graphics he will pull, but I would recommend for these tasks to look towards other models - for example, on Asus ZenBook Flip 14 with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 video card.

HP Specter x360 13 (2019) showed the expectedresults in graphics tests. In 3DMark Fire Strike, I got 1182 points, like the competition. In the Rocket League, the laptop delivered 53 fps at 1080p with performance settings, and 23 fps with high quality settings. For older and undemanding games, the Intel UHD 620 abound, but no more.

    HP Specter x360 13 (2019) autonomy

Specter x360 13 (2019) works onEnergy-efficient Core i7-8565U processor, it has an excellent 1-watt display, as well as a 61 Wh battery. From such a laptop, in principle, you can expect excellent battery life. She is really impressive. For example, in a test with web surfing, the laptop worked for 12 hours and 45 minutes - and this is the result that allowed HP to bypass the LG Gram 14 with 12 hours, as well as the Yoga C930 with a result of 10.5 hours.

When playing looped HP Specter videox360 13 (2019) lasted a phenomenal 17 hours 36 minutes, beating all the laptops I tested earlier. Is that the 15-inch Surface Book 2 was better. In the Basemark test, in which the processor is maximally loaded, I got a result of about 4.5 hours - a good indicator, but lags behind the 2-in-1 models from LG and Lenovo.

Simply put, the new Specter x360 13 is easywill work the whole working day without recharging, and you will even have the energy to watch movies before bedtime. If you do not load the system, then the autonomy will pleasantly surprise you. My laptop worked for 10 hours in mixed mode, and that was enough for me.

The HP Specter x360 13 (2019) is awesomehybrid laptop that can bring joy at work. It is fast, with excellent autonomy and convenient. HP was able to get the maximum that today it is possible to have from models 2-in-1.

At the beginning of the review I wondered ifmodel 2019 save the magic that was 2 years ago? Yes, in all respects the new Specter x360 13 (2019) is better, so I’m happy to complete this review.
