    Design and appearance

Despite the big 15.A 6-inch display, the VivoBook S15 is a portable ultrabook weighing just 1.8 kg and 18 mm thick. Of course, compared to 12 and 13-inch models, it looks a bit heavy, but like a laptop with a 15-inch screen and weighing less than 2 kg is a rarity.

In addition, thanks to the powerful i7 processor, AsusVivoBook S15 runs quietly and does not heat up even if you run heavy graphics tests. The aluminum alloy case is quite strong, it can be obtained in silver, green and acid pink - the latest version is clearly aimed at a young audience.

Asus also pays great attention to detail: for example, a hinge connecting the screen to the body gently lifts the keyboard slightly up as you open the screen.

    Display and sound

The main reason to buy the Asus VivoBook S15 isOf course, a large display. Yes, here is the usual HD-resolution (1920 × 1080), but, this is normal for its price. The screen quality is excellent - the image on it is clean and detailed, the colors are bright and well suited for viewing photos and videos.

Viewing angles are also good - the contents of the panelIt reads well in almost any position up to 180 degrees, so the S15 is suitable for use with friends or for an impromptu presentation in front of colleagues.

Sound from stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardonalthough it does not reach the quality of Hi-Fi, but there is no rattle and whistle inherent in most other laptops. Therefore, the sound quality of the VivoBook S15 is great for watching movies or listening to music.

    Keyboard and Connections

Asus VivoBook S15 Keyboard feels likeconvenient, comfortable to work on, and the large size of the case means there is room for a digital unit and comfortable-sized navigation buttons (with arrows).

The only small complaint here issilver color of the inscriptions on the keys, it is not clear enough, and it can be difficult to distinguish even with backlight. This does not apply to the basic set of letters, but rather to small icons like adjusting brightness and volume.

Many ultrabooks suffer from a lack ofconnectors, but the size of the VivoBook S15 allows it to fit everything you need on its sides. There are two USB 2.0 ports on the left, as well as one USB 3.1 and USB-C port on the right. There is also a microSD slot on the right side, a 3.5 mm audio jack and an HDMI output for connecting to an external monitor. In addition, the VivoBook S15 can boast of being one of the first laptops to support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard.

But you need to get used to ScreenPad. It can be used not only as a regular trackpad, but also as a small touchscreen, in which there are a number of additional functions. For example, there is a Handwriting application that translates hand-written text into a computer, as well as Quick Key software that allows you to reassign frequently used commands like cut / copy / paste to click on the trackpad.

But, even after a while, getting used to ScreenPad is not easy. As with the Apple MacBook Pro's Touch Bar, it seems like it's new for the sake of new.

    Iron productivity

The Asus VivoBook S15 does not have a separate video card -This work is done by the integrated graphics processor in the Intel Core i7, although there is a version with a dedicated 2 GB Nvidia MX250. However, as the test shows, even Intel's graphics perform well with its function.

In PCMark 8, a laptop scores 3500 points - which meansequipment will cope with a wide range of basic tasks. You can not only work comfortably in spreadsheets, but also easily process photos and even edit videos.

If the lack of a discrete graphics card is notallows you to enjoy new games, I advise you to purchase a more expensive version of the VivoBook S15 with the MX250. But, even the test model in Cinebench scored 56 fps, this suggests that the computer can cope with something not too demanding without problems.

    Battery autonomy

Duration of work on a single chargeThe VivoBook S15 is rather modest, although this is inevitable with an i7 processor and a large 15.6-inch display. It is curious that on the official website of Asus does not give us accurate information about the endurance of the battery in this model.

Test PCMark 8 Home, held in a loopmode, spent the entire charge in about 4.5 hours. But if you just watch movies, the battery will last about eight hours. One can hardly say that the Asus VivoBook S15 is one of those laptops that you can use all day, but it should be enough for most of it. In addition, the model is not the most portable, and you will probably use it mainly in the office or at home.

    VivoBook S15 Versions and Cost

The VivoBook S line has a rather strange numberingmodels, as well as the characteristics of each of them. There are devices with 14 and 15-inch screens, as well as processors i5 and i7. In addition, the operating system can be both Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro. Asus complicates all this with the fact that not all models can be purchased through the company's online store, and you need to look for them on Amazon or elsewhere.

But all the laptops in this line are inexpensive: devices with a diagonal of 15 inches start cost from 39 thousand rubles, with an Intel i5-8265U processor, a core frequency of 1.6 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.

There is a more powerful and expensive model - withquad-core i7-8565U and a core frequency of 1.8 GHz (maximum 4.6 GHz in Turbo Boost mode). The drive here is twice as large - 512 GB, and 32 GB of Intel Optane memory with high-speed access. The price of this laptop is quite reasonable - from 63 thousand rubles.

All mentioned models have a 15.6-inchHD-display (1920 × 1080), however, the version with i7, which is described here, has Asus ScreenPad 2.0 - a rather unusual trackpad, which also serves as a miniature touch screen.

Asus VivoBook S15 strikes a balance between largescreen and relatively small dimensions, while having high performance, a large number of connectors and a reasonable price. The battery life does not break records, but for a laptop with such a display and a powerful processor it is quite good.

ScreenPad is unlikely to become something indispensable, but it does not interfere here, and in some situations it can be very convenient.

    Should I buy?

In general, the VivoBook S15 is good in terms of price - quality and is suitable for everyone who needs a laptop with a large screen for work, at home or in the office.
