Researchers find critical vulnerability in Apple M1 processors

At the end of 2020, Apple introduced its firstcomputers based on the proprietary Apple M1 processor. Since then, this line of chips has been mentioned only in a positive way. But, as it turned out, the company's own development also has disadvantages. Thus, an international group of researchers discovered a vulnerability in the processors of a corporation from Cupertino. Moreover, this vulnerability is associated with the potential to steal user data.

The security hole in the M1 line is based onData Memory-Dependent Prefetcher (DMP) mechanism. It is also relevant for the mobile processor A14. At the same time, experts noted that the vulnerability, called Augury, is unique, at least in that it was found only in Apple chips.

Recall that earlier in November 2021, Intel representatives also recommended that their users update the BIOS firmware. Then the IT giant also discovered three new vulnerabilities in its processors.
