Overview of the smartphone vivo Y35

Vivo's Y series of smartphones is mid-budget. This category includes devices up to 22,000 rubles.

Not so long ago, the Y35 was introducedworth about 18,000 rubles. But now its price has dropped to 14,000 rubles, so the vivo Y35 smartphone "played with new colors." For that kind of money, you get an excellent quality FullHD IPS display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a capacious 5000 mAh battery, 50 MP main and 16 MP front cameras, a quite fast Qualcomm processor and IP54 protection.

Agree, the technical component for 14,000 rubles is quite convincing.

Almost all vivo smartphones haveunique design. And here I am not exaggerating: the V23 has a photochromic coating that changes color in the light, the V23e has an unusual lid with “spots”, the Y21 has large rectangles on the back of the device, the Y22 is equipped with a panel with iridescent diamonds on the back.

The Y35 smartphone has large camera eyes andcool design of the back panel: it shows a grid that seems to move in space depending on the angle of inclination, and sometimes a second row of grid appears at the back, only more blurry. The impression that you are looking at a double chain-link mesh from a close distance.

But such an effect was implemented in the Y35 model in Black Agate. There is also Golden Dawn, but it has some other effect. The device is not on hand, so I can’t say for sure.

The lid is matte, slightly rough to the touch, but still relatively slippery. The marks on it are almost invisible.

The camera module is very large, in fact, as is the design of the lenses. Mirror backing. And now she is already "blurting" decently.

From the absurd, in my subjective opinion, -macro lens. It is small and rectangular. That is, you have an apparatus with huge circles and a small rectangle. Then they would make all the lenses round and large. In this case, probably, the Y35 would look like some kind of Apple iPhone Pro version.

The front side is glass, everything else is plastic. The assembly is excellent.

Elements on the case

Front of the device:

  • Speaker. Loud, clear, no overload, midrange;
  • Selfie camera;
  • Light and proximity sensors. The first sensor constantly underestimates the brightness by 20%. This is especially noticeable in toys. Most likely, this saves energy.

  • The 3.5 mm jack is a rarity these days;
  • Microphone;
  • USB-C
  • Hands-free speaker.

On right:

  • Power button. Flat, not very long.Convenient to use. The stroke is minimal, there is a loud click sound. Built-in fingerprint scanner. Works flawlessly. Additionally, there is an unlocking of the device by a face scan;
  • Volume control. The button is similar in terms of the “power” parameters, only a little thinner.

At the top is a triple slot for two SIM cards and a microSD memory card up to 1 TB. There is no second microphone for noise suppression in the Y35.

On the reverse side are three modules and a double flash.

The manufacturer officially indicates that the phonehas a degree of protection IP54. This means that some dust may enter the device, but it will not affect operation. Splashes of water will also not disable the device.

Dimensions comparison: Asus Zenfone 8, vivo Y35, Xiaomi 12 Pro

As far as I understand, vivo in the Y series for the first time has a screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. This is good news, as increasing the frequency to a reasonable level improves the user experience.

The screen diagonal of the Y35 is 6.58 inches, resolution - 2408 × 1080 pixels (FHD +), matrix type - IPS. The maximum brightness of the white point is no more than 430 cd/m. As I already wrote, automation is constantly trying to underestimate the brightness of the matrix backlight.

In the settings there is an item with the screen frequency.Choice of smart switching, 60 Hz and 90 Hz. Colors can be made standard, "professional" or vibrant. The manufacturer specifies a color gamut of 96% NTSC. There is a blue filter.

In general, the matrix transmits saturated colors, the contrast is excellent. When I first met the device, it even seemed to me that there was some kind of inexpensive AMOLED panel.

Working hours

The battery capacity in vivo Y35 is 5000 mAh. I can’t say that this is a unique situation, but it’s nice.

The official hours of operation are as follows:

  • 14 hours of online HD video viewing;
  • 7 hours of games with demanding graphics;
  • Up to 2 days standby.

I got these:

  • 13 hours of FullHD video playback at maximum brightness;
  • 7-8 hours of toys on the example of PUBG with the highest possible graphics;
  • Up to 10 hours of screen glow (without a SIM card): watching videos, editing photos / videos, working with documents, browsing via Wi-Fi.

I think the device coped with the task. Opening hours are excellent. The device has vivo Energy Guardian technology. It optimizes the system for long-term autonomy.

18W AC adapter included. Weak. However, up to 70% charges in about one hour. Up to 100% - in an hour and a half.

Communication options

Everything is standard here, so describe in detailI won't. The device understands VoLTE and VoW-Fi, works with NFC and Mir pay payment system. There is no 5G support in vivo Y35. 4G bands - 1/3/5/7/8/18/19/20/26/28.

Positioning is determined slowly, the smartphone sees few satellites, and the sensitivity is weak.

The device uses a 50 MP (f / 1.8) module for the main camera, 2 MP for background blur (digital bokeh) and 2 MP for macro photography.

I won’t talk about the latter, since it’s here for a “tick”, it shoots frankly badly. Below is an example.

I would not pay attention to loud 50 MP,because the module, to be honest, is weak. The camera shoots both day and night is very average. You can squeeze a good shot in very bright light, with manual settings, preferably in full resolution. I liked the work of the white balance - always right on target. There is a lot of “soap” at night, but there is almost no noise.

In general, for a smartphone for 14,000 rubles, the camera is normal. By the way, here is the official footage. They were shot in certain conditions, so they came out great.

  • Original photos (zip, 46 MB)

But these are honest shots from the Y35, judging by the EXIF data.

The front camera shoots very well.There is nothing to complain about here: accurate WB, good dynamic range, bright night shots, the ability to apply digital background blur (note that without an additional camera).

Video shoots in FullHD resolution at 30 fps. Stream 17 Mbps, AVC codec, MP4 container. Sound 48 kHz, AAC codec, two channels, but mono.

The quality of the videos at night is not bad, but I do not recommend using stabilization - the crop is too big. During the day, the quality is normal, there is autofocus, relatively fast.

The front shoots FullHD at 30 fps during the day and 15 fps at night. Daytime videos are interesting due to the natural blurring of the background.

5 new smartphones of September

In Berlin, at IFA 2022, a bunch of new smartphones were presented. Let's see!

The camera interface is the same as on any other vivo devices. There are a lot of settings. Bottom modes: night, portrait, photo, video, additional options (50 MP, panorama, Pro-mode, and so on).

For photos, there is an AI mode, HDR and a choice of effects. In portrait mode, selectable: background blur, beautification, photo style, filters and lighting effects.

In the video, you can choose 60 fps at 720p, add beautification and filters.

The manual options have exposure, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and focus. The same settings apply to selfies.

In general, the device shoots for its 14,000 rubles, but there are a lot of parameters for video and photos: with skillful hands, you can squeeze a good result out of the materials.

Sample photos and videos:

  • Original photos (zip, 77 MB)
  • Sample video (MP4, 74 MB)
  • Sample video (MP4, 59 MB)
  • Sample video (MP4, 65 MB)
  • Sample video (MP4, 10 MB)
  • Sample video (MP4, 52 MB)

Memory, processor and performance

The vivo Y35 uses 4GB of RAM (plus 1GB expansion). The speed is very low - 4500 MB / s.

The built-in memory can be 64 GB or 128 GB.I had a 64 GB version, of which approximately 45 GB is available to the user. Speed - 700/160 MB / s. That is, there is a very high reading speed. Logically.

Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 680.Its main advantage compared to the SoC of other budget devices is the 6 nm technical process. The smartphone almost does not heat up even when loaded with games such as PUBG.

By the way, the chip is not so old - it was shown exactly a year ago. It released vivo Y22s, Y21e, Y32, Redmi Note 11 4G, realme 9 and at least 30 other devices.

In games, the "Ultragame" menu appears on the screen.There is a balanced mode and Boost. I didn't notice the difference. The PUBG game only runs on the first two graphics settings: "Smooth" and "Balance". The graphics look the same. The number of frames is also unlikely to reach 30. In general, you can play, but without much pleasure.

In the Antutu test, the vivo Y35 scores 250,000 points. The result is modest.

In general, a very fast smartphone can not be called.It seems to me that this is not only a matter of the processor and slow RAM, but also of the shell. She lacks fluidity. Rescues the position of 90 Hz screen refresh rate. At 60 Hz, the smartphone seems to lag.

But, again, we remember the cost (14,000 rubles) - and everything falls into place.

operating system

The device runs on Google Android version 12 on the Funtouch OS 12 proprietary shell. Here are its brief features:

  • Compact widgets;
  • Nano music player with built-in Spotify and Joox;
  • Gallery with photos on the main screen;
  • "Stickers". Something like widgets;
  • Changes in the design of multitasking. There are two options to choose from;
  • RAM expansion. But it was, it seems to me, in the previous version of the OS. I think the chip is as marketing as possible, since it is impossible to “measure” in any way.

Musical possibilities

Vivo H35 uses one speaker for outputspeakerphone. The volume is average, the quality is good, mainly medium and high frequencies play. Marketers have a hand in this: if you increase the volume to the maximum, then the so-called Audio Booster mode is turned on, which, according to the manufacturer, adds another 5 dB. Well, yes, the volume is a little higher. But it was possible not to do a similar trick, but initially give the user maximum volume.

The device is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack, which cannot but please those who use wired headphones or a headset.

A significant plus of musical capabilities is support for Bluetooth codecs aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX TWS +, aptXHD, LDAC, and AAC with SBC.

At a cost of about 14,000 rubles, a vivo smartphoneY35 turned out to be an excellent solution for those who were looking for a 90 Hz screen, long autonomy, nice design, practical materials and a well-known trusted brand for little money.

One nuance. A device with 128 GB costs already 20,000 rubles. As for me, it's too expensive. Therefore, it is better to buy 64 GB and add microSD.

The Y35 also has enough minuses:

  • Slow RAM speed;
  • So-so quality of the main camera;
  • Low performance.

In general, the smartphone is interesting, especially for 14,000 rubles. I recommend taking a look.

There are a lot of competitors, and there are worthy ones. Everyone can choose between screen type and other options.
