NASA sent a kamikaze probe into an asteroid (video)

NASA announced the successful collision of the DART probe, launched as part of the mission of the same name, in order to find out if the collision method will help protect the Earth from asteroids that threaten the planet.

DART collided with asteroid Dimorph in the distance11 million kilometers from Earth. The diameter of the asteroid is 160 meters. NASA representatives noted that the first test of planetary defense was successful. And the effectiveness of the method will be fully evaluated in 2027.

At its core, DART isan unparalleled success in planetary defense, but it is also a unity mission with real benefit to all mankind. As NASA studies space and our home planet, we are also working to protect this home, and this international collaboration has turned science fiction into science fact, demonstrating one way to protect the Earth,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
