NASA Reveals Recorded Martian Sounds

On the official NASA website in the section dedicated toexploration of Mars, in the subsection “Multimedia. Audio ”, publicly available audio files recorded by the Perseverance rover since last fall.

The first sounds of the 60 second audio file wererecorded on October 19, 2020, during the Perseverance mission to Mars. The muffled buzz was identified by NASA experts as sounds coming from the liquid pump of the rover's cooling system. Further audio files were recorded by Perseverance after landing on the surface of Mars.

In total, over 5 were provided in eight fileshours of sounds from a neighboring planet. One of the most interesting audio recordings, NASA engineers called the sounds of another terrestrial vehicle on another planet, first recorded by a terrestrial spacecraft. This recording was taken on April 30, 2021 during the fourth flight of the Ingenuity helicopter over the surface of Mars. A highly sensitive Perseverance - SuperCam microphone was used for the recording.

No less interesting is the recording of the "bombardment" by the lasersurface of Mars at a distance of 3.1 meters from Perseverance. On the audio, you can hear 30 sounds of the laser “hitting” a “stone target”. As a result of this experiment, the hardness of the surface and its resistance to atmospheric precipitation were determined from the intensity of sounds.
