Muscovites will receive electronic passports this year

In the fourth quarter of the coming 2021Moscow residents will receive passports on electronic media in the form factor of a plastic card with an integrated chip, which will contain all the data about the citizen.

Interfax journalists received information fromFirst Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Gorovoy, who said that the initiative comes from the mayor of the capital, and testing will be carried out on the basis of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

At the first stage, e-passports will be distributed through the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and then the Multifunctional Centers for the Provision of State and Municipal Services (MFC) will join the initiative.

The e-passport will be issued in standardbank card ID1 format, with a domestically produced electronic chip, which will contain standard data previously entered in paper passports. Among the advantages of the new passports are their greater security, durability and the possibility of prompt remote blocking.

During the Moscow experiment, a special mobile application will be created, which, together with a passport, will allow citizens of the Russian Federation to use a qualified electronic signature.
