Design and construction
The larger display requires a larger size, but not necessarily in all directions, the bezels around the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 screen have been reduced.

Rounded corners contribute to a more comfortableusing the Pro 8 in tablet mode. The body is made of anodized aluminum, and the "graphite" color is reminiscent of the props from the Batman movies. The Microsoft logo is located in the center of the top of the back cover, making the simple design more interesting.
There are few keys on the sides of the display:volume buttons on the left and power on the right. The stand has remained unchanged, because it was flawless before, and under it is a slot with a removable SSD.
Laptop screen
For years, Microsoft's Surface Pro lineup has had great PixelSense displays. The Pro 8 continues this tradition.
It has a 13-inch screen with a resolution of 2880 × 1920pixels that are even brighter and richer compared to Surface Pro 7. Aspect ratio - 3: 2, which is ideal for most work tasks. You can place countless windows on the screen and increase your productivity.
In terms of display quality, it's hard to findbetter model if you need a portable device. It used to be a problem with thick bezels on the sides, but now that's a thing of the past. While the bezels aren't as small as the Dell XPS 13, Microsoft has managed to find the perfect balance for comfortable grip - it's not just a laptop, it's a tablet, too.
Surface Pro 8's display is well-suited for video andfilms, but this is not the main purpose of the device. There are better options for viewing content. DCI-P3 color space coverage is only 72% - slightly better than Dell XPS 13 (70%), but inferior to Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable (75%). The average for premium laptops is 85%.
The Surface Pro 8's screen is much better at 450 nits. The XPS 13 has 490 nits, while the X12 Detachable has 375 nits. The average for top-tier models is 395 nits.
Connectors and ports
The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 has the highly anticipated Thunderbolt 4 ports - there are two on the right side.
Directly below them is the Surface Connect port forcharging, and on the left is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. At the bottom there is a port for the Surface Type Cover. Some will be disappointed by the lack of USB-A and microSD, but Thunderbolt 4 is a much more reliable option for years to come. In either case, you can connect a USB-C hub to one of the two connectors.
Keyboard and touchpad
The Microsoft Type Cover keyboard for Surface Pro 8 hasn't changed much, with only a Slim Pen 2 slot at the top.
Let the keyboard not be so comfortable to useon its knees, like in full-fledged laptops, it is as close as possible to this. The cover is made of soft Alcantara fabric - it is more pleasant on the wrists than ordinary plastic or metal. The distance between the keys is matched perfectly, which is facilitated by the slightly increased dimensions of the laptop. Printing on Type Cover is comfortable even for a long time.
Dimensions of the touchpad Microsoft Surface Pro 8 -10.2 x 5.8 cm, slightly larger than the previous model. This is sufficient for Windows 11 gestures and for use on the go when the mouse is inconvenient to reach - although you can always use the touchscreen.
Sound system
The new Microsoft Surface Pro 8 has 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
For some reason, such a set is rarely found even inconventional laptops, although good sound is essential for many. The Pro 8 will have no problem filling an entire room with music, and the sound stays clear even at maximum volume.
Of course, the Pro 8's speakers are not comparable to high-quality headphones, but for background listening, they are quite suitable. You can watch YouTube videos or Netflix series without any problems.
When it comes to communicating with other people, there are dual long-range microphones on the body of the device.
Webcams
The 5-megapixel webcam with 1080p video recording on the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 is still one of the best laptops and tablets around.
If you participate in daily video conferencingor streaming, an external webcam would be preferable, but the Pro 8's camera is almost as good. Windows Hello technology also works flawlessly - the laptop will be reliably protected from other people, while the camera will recognize you instantly. Every laptop should have this biometric security.
On the back of the Surface Pro 8 is10MP focusing camera capable of recording video in 1080p or 4K. You can't shoot a movie on it, but during a video call, you can easily switch to it and demonstrate something.
Software
For better or worse, Surface Pro 8 runs Windows 11.
The new version of the operating system hasMultiple features ideal for 2-in-1 laptops. There are no unnecessary applications and games that take up precious space on the SSD - only programs from Microsoft. Whether they are "extra software" is another question.
Component performance
Iron power is one of the areas where Microsoft Surface Pro 8 has seen major changes.
I checked the assembly with an Intel Core processori7-1185G7, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD, so performance is no problem with this 2-in-1 hybrid laptop. You can easily open 20-30 tabs in the browser, play some YouTube videos at 1080p and a couple of streams on Twitch, and you will not hear the fan noise.
The high speed of work will please programs like Adobe Photoshop together with Premiere Pro, for which many people will buy such a device. Performance tests also reflect power.
In GeekBench 5.4 laptop scores 5347 points in multi-core mode. The result is inferior to the Dell XPS 13 (5571 points with the Core i7-1165G7), but much better than the ThinkPad X12 Detachable (4778 points) and Surface Pro 7+ (4825). The SSD also does not fail - the data transfer rate is about 415 Mb / s.
Autonomy Microsoft Surface Pro 8
The battery life of the Surface Pro 8's battery isn't astounding, but it's not disappointing either.
When performing normal tasks, medium brightnessscreen and 60 Hz refresh rate, you can count on 9 hours of use - not bad for this form factor. At 120 Hz, this figure will decrease by an hour.
The Surface Pro 7's battery lasted only 7.5 hours,but today's competitors are outperforming the Pro 8, with both the ThinkPad X12 Detachable and the XPS 13 offering 11 hours. For many people, these extra 2 hours will not worry about the laptop running out of battery during the working day. That's the price you pay for a high-resolution PixelSense display.

Microsoft's Surface Pro 8 may not have made a huge breakthrough in the lineup, but it does bring in quite a few important updates that make it one of the best 2-in-1 laptops out there.
The display has increased and the bezels around iton the contrary, they have decreased. Rounded corners make the Pro 8 easier to use in tablet mode, which is enhanced by the new features of Windows 11. Note-taking and drawing enthusiasts will love the Slim Pen 2, while the Type Cover keyboard makes the Pro 8 a complete alternative to any laptop.
Should I buy
