Each of us wants to be healthy, but practicallyeach medicine has side effects, physical activity is contraindicated for some people, and even a healthy diet needs to be managed wisely. But have you ever heard anything bad about meditation? Perhaps this way of strengthening physical and emotional health is the most suitable for all people, without exception. Recently, scientists from the US state of Connecticut have proven that everyone can learn how to do short meditations, and very quickly. In this case, the positive effect will not take long, because a person will very soon notice a lesser sensitivity to pain and emotional stability. But how did scientists prove this?
The study and its results werenarrated in the scientific journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. The scientific work was attended by 17 people who had never before tried to meditate. They were asked to perform a 20-minute exercise, during which they were required to concentrate on their feelings, stop floating in the clouds and generally be aware of their existence. What kind of exercise was used for this is not reported, but most likely the participants first concentrated on their breathing, gradually relaxed parts of their body and tried to stay in this state for the maximum amount of time. As a rule, it is with such an exercise that beginners begin to learn meditation.
How is meditation helpful?
After learning short meditation, volunteerspassed two tests. During the first, a warm or hot object was placed on their forearm. In the second test, people were shown neutral photographs such as images of furniture, or shocking shots with dead people. All this time, scientists monitored the activity of different areas of their brain to find out whether meditation affects at such a deep level, or is it just self-hypnosis.

It was found that in normal condition peopleFeel more pain and experience a more pronounced negative when seeing unpleasant images. But after a 20-minute meditation, which literally “lowers from heaven to earth” and helps to be aware, the sensitivity to pain and emotional upheaval decreases markedly. On the whole, a person becomes calmer, his mood improves and he can more soberly evaluate the events that are taking place.
All this is evidenced not onlyobservations of scientists, but also the results of brain scans of volunteers. They showed that after meditation, the activity of the parts of the brain that are responsible for the perception of pain and negative emotions is significantly reduced. According to neurobiologist Hedi Kober, after meditation, people perceived hot objects as if they were just warm.
So, in the course of scientific work, scientists did asat least two openings. Firstly, even short meditations can improve a person’s condition by reducing their sensitivity to pain and negative emotions. Secondly, even those people who have not tried this technique before can meditate effectively. It is noteworthy that most people can experience the benefits of meditation very quickly. To teach meditation, there are even mobile applications like Headspace, with which the first steps to awareness can be done in just a few minutes.

In general, to master the technique of meditation,we recommend reading the book by Danny Penman and Mark Williams "Awareness: How to find harmony in our crazy world." It tells about the benefits of staying in a conscious state, and each fact is fixed by links to the results of scientific research. Recommended reading!
