When it comes to comparing Tesla withgasoline or diesel cars, almost no one doubts that the electric car Ilona Mask will be more economical to use. Indeed, either we ourselves came to this, or they inspired us, but the costs of maintaining electric cars and their brothers on fuel are always not in favor of the latter. But is there really this saving? Having discarded some factors, I’ll try to answer the question: is there any sense in buying Tesla ... for example, in Russia.

Tesla Fuel Consumption

For comparison with a gasoline / diesel car, we take the speed of 80 km / h as a basis.
If you take the battery capacity of the Tesla Model 3 (nottop-end) - it is 54 kW * h. At a flow rate of about 120 W * h / km we get a range of almost 430 kilometers, and at 170 W * h / km the range will be less than 320 kilometers.
Comparison of Tesla and petrol cars
Take the claimed (and average) consumption of the Tesla Model 3 - 15 kWh / 100 km. An average sedan that looks like her (well, for example, a Mazda 6), combined fuel consumption makes 10 l / 100 km. Again, if you do not drive aggressively and at high speeds. Through simple calculations, we get that 15 kWh of Tesla is equal to 10 liters of gasoline - that is, 1 liter of gasoline in our case will be equal to 1.5 kWh of energy.

Consider the ideal option: you have your own house with a garage (or an apartment with underground parking), where you installed a charging station for your Tesla Model 3. The same conditions, only now you do not have a gasoline Mazda, but, for example, a diesel Mercedes A-class. The average consumption of it leaves about 5 liters per 100 km.

A trip to Tesla will again cost 82.05rubles (15 kWh we multiply by 5.47 rubles), and on a diesel car - 230 rubles (46 rubles per liter we multiply by 5). A liter of diesel at a price has long equaled gasoline in Russia, and at some gas stations it is even a little more expensive.
Tesla was again more economical, but the difference with a diesel engine is about 150 rubles.
How much does Tesla pay off?
Price Tesla Model 3 (Standart Range Plus) in Russiais about 4,500,000 rubles. The same Mercedes A-class with a diesel engine - in the region of 2,500,000 rubles. It turns out that in order to buy Tesla, you need to pay an additional 2,000,000 rubles.
If you operate both cars in equal conditions (100 km per day), then every day you will save “on fuel” about 150 rubles.
To recapture the cost of a car, it will take 13,000 days or 35 years.
So that this figure does not shock you, let'slet's compare how much the Tesla purchase will pay off if you take it instead of the new gasoline Mazda 6. True, it costs even less than the Mercedes - about 2,000,000 rubles. To buy Tesla, you need to pay 2,500,000 rubles.

The only thing when buying a Tesla isadvisable - if a gasoline or diesel car, which you consider as an alternative, costs no less than the new Tesla. Then you can really save on fuel, and the car will immediately begin to pay for itself. As a rule, people who buy cars for that kind of money have the opportunity to equip themselves with a charging station at home or at work.
Of course, you can now start talking aboutthe need for maintenance every 15,000 km for a gasoline or diesel car (and someone does maintenance every 10,000 km), but even if you spend an additional 30 thousand rubles on each maintenance, this will not affect much. Especially for Tesla, you also need to do scheduled maintenance every 20,000 km (watch or change pads, oil in the razdatki and cabin filter), for which you also have to pay. What Tesla really bribes in terms of service is the guarantee for power units and the battery - it is 8 years. The only thing - for Model 3 there is still a mileage limit: 160,000 km for the version with a standard battery and 192,000 km for the Long Range version. Model S and Model X have no such limitation.
But if the warranty ends on Tesla, and the battery "died" after that, the new battery will cost half the cost of a car.
Buying Tesla in the USA
Of course, if you take Tesla in the USA, the purchase will bemuch more justified. Not only because the same Model 3 costs $ 35,000 there (about 2,500,000 rubles), but also thanks to the widespread use of charges from Tesla itself. Although it’s more profitable to take Model S or Model X - for them Tesla branded chargers are completely free now.

One thing is clear - the logic is “buy a car a little more expensive, but Tesla is more economical than gasoline", At least for the Russian Federation, does not work. If there is a choice between cars of the same price category, then only in this case it makes sense to buy Tesla. Or if you just enjoy the fact that you care about nature.
