Enthusiasts constantly monitor the technicalparameters declared by the manufacturer. Market leaders are especially closely monitored. CNET has done a lengthy and meticulous study of the water resistance setting for the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.
The result was unexpected - protectionsmartphones from water is much higher than manufacturers claim. After 8 months underwater, the smartphones continued to function normally. They also withstood short-term dives to a depth exceeding the limits specified by the developers.
Apple iPhone 11 and 11 Pro smartphones haveIP68 water protection according to IEC 60529 standard. This protection class allows iPhone 11 to stay under water at a depth of 2 meters for half an hour. This figure is double the capabilities of the iPhone XR. For iPhone 11 Pro models, half an hour underwater will be harmless to a depth of 4 meters.
CNET representatives together with SofarOcean Technologies, using the Trident underwater drone last year, conducted several phases of submersion tests on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro smartphones. The fourth stage - the immersion of the devices under water for 8 months, was completed only now. Both smartphones worked fine after a long stay under water, without any visible damage.
It is noteworthy that the first three stages of underwatertests also showed results that exceeded Apple's stated parameters. In the first test, smartphones were submerged for half an hour using a Trident drone to a depth of 4 meters, in the second - to a depth of 8 meters, and in the third - to 12 meters. In all cases, the smartphones remained functional after drying.
