Intel's artificial intelligence will make GTA V incredibly photorealistic (video)

Современные компьютерные игры уже погружают the user into the virtual world, as close as possible to reality. Nevertheless, new developments by Intel Labs engineers will make the game world even more realistic, with photographic detail. Called Enhancing Photorealism Enhancement, the project is based on machine learning and harnesses the full power of artificial intelligence. The implementation of the pilot project is carried out on the example of the game Grand Theft Auto V, which is already famous for the maximum approximation of the virtual city of San Andreas to the realities of Los Angeles.

In test mode, Intel developers checkedthe possibilities of machine learning of a neural network on the example of real photographs of German cities. The photos available to the researchers were transformed by artificial intelligence and transferred to the game system. The result was a photographically realistic image, similar to photographs taken through the windshield of a car.

On a dynamically variable photographicIn the image, you can observe slightly blurry lighting, light reflection from the sidewalk, and reflections of lighting from passing cars. The player is completely immersed in the photorealistic atmosphere of the city with all its inherent objects: buildings, plants, warning signs and oncoming cars.

According to developers from Intel Labs, the newthe algorithm surpasses all previous photorealistic transformation processes by embedding geometric information from GTA V itself. The so-called "G-buffers" use a lot of data, such as the ability of the vehicle's surface to reflect, the distance between game objects and the quality of textures.
