People who have trouble sleeping may bemore prone to the development of stroke and heart attack (heart attack), as well as other diseases associated with damage to the cardiovascular system, as well as cerebral vessels. So say the Chinese scientists who published their research data in the journal Neurology.
How does insomnia cause heart attack and stroke?
In the course of research, a research team fromPeking University, led by MD Dr. Limming Lee, has identified 3 major symptoms that may indicate an increased risk of developing severe cardiovascular disease in healthy people.
Our results show that if we canto identify people who have trouble sleeping, then maybe we can reduce the number of cases of stroke, heart attacks and other diseases. - says lead author Leaming Lee.
The study involved 487,200 people withaverage age 51 years. Participants did not have a history of heart attacks, strokes, or other similar diseases. Participants were asked if they had any manifestations of one or more of three symptoms of insomnia at least three times a week: problems falling asleep or sleeping, waking up too early in the morning, problems with concentration during the day due to the fact that the man slept poorly. A total of 11% of people had difficulty falling asleep or sleeping, 10% said they woke up too early, and 2% had difficulty concentrating during the day. Of all respondents, approximately half had all 3 symptoms. Then, all people were watched on average for about 10 years.

During this time, 130,032 cases were recorded.stroke, heart attack and other similar diseases. People who had all three symptoms of insomnia were 18% more likely to develop the above diseases than people who did not have any of the manifestations. Researchers also considered other factors that could affect the risk of stroke or cardiovascular disease, including alcohol use, smoking, and physical activity.
People who have had trouble falling asleep orduration of sleep were 9% more likely to develop a stroke or heart attack than people who did not have this problem. Participants in the experiment, who woke up too early in the morning and could not fall asleep again, were 7% more likely to develop these cardiovascular lesions than people with normal sleep patterns. For our part, we hope that you are doing well with sleep. By the way, a number of studies show that bedtime reading is helpful. So you can join us in Telegram and fall asleep with health benefits.
The relationship between the symptoms of insomnia and thesediseases is more pronounced in people who did not have high blood pressure at the beginning of the study, so future research should be aimed at early detection of such patients at risk. - said Lee.
Scientists also note that their study does notaims to show a causal relationship between the symptoms of insomnia and stroke and heart disease. It is designed to make people more competent about their health. And, since there is a certain pattern, it is not worth thinking that problems with sleep can in no way affect other human organs.
