India intends to take over at least a quarter of global iPhone production

According to the Minister of Commerce of India, Piyush Goyal, India is a competitive player in

manufacturing sector and already produces up to 7% ofproduction of Apple smartphones. In the future, the country plans to increase the production of iPhone smartphones to 25% of global production volumes. Exports of Apple products from India in December crossed the $1 billion mark. Apple began manufacturing smartphones in India in 2017, Wistron was the first manufacturer, and Foxconn and Pegatron are also currently working on manufacturing Apple products in India. Foxconn previously announced its intention to quadruple its workforce in India over the next two years. The development of manufacturing in India is facilitated by Apple's desire to diversify its own production chains and reduce dependence on China.
