Just think it over - right now when youread this news, at several points on the planet, archaeologists are constantly digging. Their enthusiasm is easy to understand, because if they find the ancient artifacts or bones of any animal, they can learn a lot about the distant past of the Earth. Recently, in the Mexican state of Yucatan, scientists were fortunate enough to find the teeth of several species of sharks, among which were fragments of the skeleton of an underwater monster - megalodon. This finding proved the long-standing assumption of researchers that millions of years ago, part of modern Mexico was located under water.
According to Fox News, the bones were found inthe walls of the funnel, which was formed after the collapse of the arch of a limestone cave called Khos. This cave is located near the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan - the city of Merida. It was erected in the 16th century on the site of a crater that remained after the fall of the Chiksulubsky asteroid 60 million years ago. Researchers have long assumed that once upon a time this region was located under water and confirmation of this was finally found.
The biggest shark in the world
According to cave explorer Kaya Nite VilchisZapata and his assistant Eric Sos Rodriguez, they managed to find and study at least 13 teeth. Part of the fossils belonged to the living shark, mako and pilonosa shark. However, in addition to them, scientists discovered the remains of an ancient monster, megalodon, who lived on our planet more than 2.5 million years ago. He and the other two sharks, by the way, had one common ancestor - a tiny fish that lived right at the bottom of the seas.
By the way, the Mako shark is among the ten most bloodthirsty inhabitants of the seas
It is noteworthy that in addition to the remains of underwaterpredators, archaeologists have discovered parts of the human skeleton. According to hypothesized data, the human bones belonged to a teenager, but so far the researchers have not been able to give other information. Perhaps, after studying the remains of anthropologists, the public will know the age of the teenager found. It is likely that once upon a time he became a victim of sharks, so his bones were found along with the remains of predators. It is also possible that he wandered and died in a cave long after the explored part of Mexico peered out from under the water.
What was Mexico millions no back?
By the way, it is likely that the ancient inhabitantsof these territories knew perfectly well that sharks are found here. The fact is that the name of the Khos limestone cave can be translated as “shark”. Anyway, in the Mexican state of Yucatan, you can find many similar caves - at the moment, researchers are aware of the 6,000 craters formed after the cave collapse. Most likely, the remains of ancient waterfowl are also walled up in their walls, so archaeologists still have a lot of work to do.
