Today, with the development of technology, more and more citiesequip cameras with face recognition system. On the one hand, it ensures the safety of people. On the other hand, with all the positive aspects, it is to some extent an invasion of privacy. And while in the western countries more and more new discussions on this issue flare up, the Chinese authorities continue to install cameras with facial recognition systems everywhere. And most recently they began to equip trash cans with such cameras.
Why install cameras in trash cans
For a start, I would like to note that this practicenot implemented everywhere, but only in a couple of areas of Beijing. The city authorities claim that such a program has been launched in test mode and the facial recognition technology is needed in order to control the program that is just starting to develop garbage sorting. In Beijing, trash cans with face-scanning technology were installed in 13 residential buildings, which the government leases to citizens. And by the end of October, the new system is expected to cover 59 districts of the city.
The question is how to ensure effectivemanaging state-funded homes to maintain cleanliness and order. This is a big problem for the city administration. Moreover, we install a face recognition system also at the automated entrance gate. And it was very warmly received by the residents of the houses that are included in the test program. - say contractors from the company Uniview.
Why do cameras with facial recognition
But back to the trash cans. According to the authors of the project, “smart” tanks equipped with cameras are aimed at reminding residents to sort their waste accordingly. And they threw away separately paper, plastic, aluminum cans, and so on. Naturally, if the case was limited only to scanning, the system could hardly count on success. It is assumed that, thanks to the face recognition system, it will be possible to identify those who violate the rules for sorting garbage and impose certain fines on them. Cash or, for example, credit rating downgrade. At the same time for the good behavior provides incentives such as free bus tickets or some coupons for purchases.
This is interesting: In China, they will use face recognition during marriage registration.
In this case, this approach is shared by no means all: on the one hand, this, of course, will allow to introduce a certain order. On the other hand, such actions increasingly bring total control over the population. Moreover, China is already developing a program called “Name and Shame”, aimed at combating anti-social behavior and recognizing rowdy and disturbers of public order, and the technological giants of the Middle Kingdom are introducing a face recognition system in retail stores, business centers and other public institutions.
