The company "Gorelectrotrans" developed "TramEUE "together with engineers of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Ship Electrical Engineering and Technology at the Krylov State Scientific Center. The project started three years ago. And in February of this year, its authors began to collect a prototype.
Energy-saving vehicles powered byelectric motor. It is supplemented by an autonomous power source that functions on the interaction of air and hydrogen. This physico-chemical process leads to the formation of electric current, forcing the composition to move. This technology makes an expensive contact network simply unnecessary.
Sergey Kitayev heads the technical servicepolicy "Gorelectrotrans". According to him, the novelty will allow saving up to 30–50% of electric power, and when building a new line, up to 60%. He assured that it is realistic to introduce energy-saving trams running on hydrogen fuel cells into mass operation in 5 years. There is a discussion of their use on routes connecting the city center and suburbs, for example, Krasnoye Selo or Kudrovo. But before that, a new development will be tested on the existing networks of the Moscow District of St. Petersburg. Do it in early fall. In the mass operation trams want to enter in 2024.
