Humanoid robot iRonCub is taught to fly on jet engines (2 photos + video)

Italian engineers are tryingto create a prototype of a robot designed for rescue services and capable of quickly moving through the air at a speed of about 1800 km / h, promptly arriving at the scene of an accident or disaster to provide first aid to victims, dismantling debris and preparing a site for receiving rescuers. The challenge for engineers is to ensure the integration of a heavy humanoid robot, jet engines and a highly accurate control and monitoring system.

Using jet thrust instead of the usualrotary-wing engines is explained by the need to optimize the dimensions of the system, to ensure the ability of robots to work in closed rooms, when parsing debris in cramped conditions.

Create a humanoid robot on jetengines are quite difficult, much more difficult than programming a rotorcraft unmanned aerial vehicle. The reactive robot must have a swift reaction and the ability to correctly assess the situation and plan a rescue operation. It was the development of the algorithm for the humanoid iRonCub on jet engines that was the main task of the Italian engineers. As a result, the theoretical ability of robots to perform complex tasks and use jet engines for movement was demonstrated.

Today the project is at the initial stagedevelopment of prototypes capable of proving the possibility of high-precision and fast rescue operations. To solve practical problems of rescuing people and eliminating the consequences of disasters, it is necessary to use an artificial intelligence system.
