All of us from early childhood were taught to brush our teeth.twice a day, morning and evening. The fact is that the health of many organs of our body depends on the cleanliness of the oral cavity. For example, pathogenic bacteria in our oral cavity can easily enter the stomach and cause gastritis, ulcers and other diseases. But did you know that dirty teeth can lead to the development of problems with the functioning of the cardiovascular system? This was recently reminded by the European Society of Cardiology recently, which revealed the relationship between oral hygiene and the occurrence of two heart conditions that are dangerous to human life.
In the course of previous scientific work, it was found outthat bacteria often appear in the human oral cavity, which, when released into the bloodstream, trigger inflammatory processes in the body. It turns out that if they get into the heart along with blood, they can cause inflammation even in the most important organ of our body. These inflammations, in turn, can cause the so-called atrial fibrillation, which is characterized by a life-threatening irregular heartbeat. They can also provoke heart failure, in which the ability of the heart to pump blood is impaired.
How does dental health affect heart function?
To find out how often these diseasesarise due to poor oral hygiene, the authors of a scientific study conducted a study. It was attended by 161,286 people who were members of the Korean National Health Insurance System. All of them were from 40 to 79 years old and none of them had previously had symptoms of arrhythmia and heart failure.
For over 10 years they all went throughA routine medical examination, in which information was collected on growth, body weight, test results, lifestyle and oral health. Over the entire duration of the study, 3% of the participants were eventually diagnosed with arrhythmia, and 4.9% had heart failure. According to researchers, most often these problems were observed precisely in those people whose oral health was far from a high level.
Do you know why teeth turn yellow?
It is noteworthy that the results of the studycompletely independent of gender, age, social status and other factors. That is, the relationship between the regularity of brushing and the occurrence of heart problems is indeed there and this morning ritual is really important to do every day.
It is worth noting that when cleaning the oral cavityyou need to carefully use dental floss. The fact is that by passing a thread between your teeth, you can inadvertently injure your gums. The aforementioned pathogenic bacteria, which without a doubt enter the bloodstream and can reach the heart, can quite easily penetrate into the formed wounds. And later on, as we already understood, atrial fibrillation and heart failure may develop.

However, after a couple of decades, humanitymay forget about the existence of toothbrushes and threads. The fact is that scientists are already developing special tools that can easily cleanse microbes from the oral cavity. For example, scientists from the US state of Pennsylvania in 2019 created a fluid consisting of tiny robots with magnets that easily clean teeth from plaque.
