According to one of the authors of the study, AnujaBascot, in their scientific work, they set out to calculate the acceleration necessary to remove moisture from a person’s ears by shaking their heads. During several experiments, they found that water stuck in the ears of a person due to the formation of so-called surface tension. When this effect occurs, something like an invisible film forms on the surface of the liquid, which prevents the water in the ears from freely flowing out. In nature, the surface tension of water can be observed by the example of dew or raindrops lying on the leaves of plants. You probably noticed that the drops are firmly held on their surface until they evaporate or fall due to the sharp movement of the leaves.
According to scientists, to shake moisture outhuman ears, quite a lot of acceleration is required. Thanks to the rather wide ear canals, adults can shake their heads without any fear and get rid of moisture without any problems. Only here the narrow auditory canals of children can hardly withstand the acceleration necessary to shake out the drops of water. Therefore, scientists hastened to warn that trying to get water out of the child’s ears with a shake of the head, parents could cause him irreparable harm.
