  • Review Honor MagicBook Pro Notebook - video
  • Sanctions hit segment hardsmartphones Honor - a subsidiary of Huawei. But, this situation did not affect laptops in any way. The new version of the Honor MagicBook Pro laptop with an Intel processor is similar to last year. The model has an attractive price tag and a discrete graphics card from Nvidia.

Unlike Google, Microsoft receiveda special license for Windows 10 that allows you to sell the operating system to Chinese companies. At this time, the MagicBook line of Honor laptops appeared, which is becoming more and more popular.

Honor's new MagicBook Pro debuted in Europe for the first timepresented at IFA 2020. But, then it did not yet have a top-level display and a discrete video card, so the Pro prefix did not quite fit the laptop. Huawei sold the Honor brand shortly thereafter. Can this 16-inch laptop compete with the competition? Read the review.

    Design and appearance

The Intel version of the Honor MagicBook Pro looks exactly the same as the AMD model.

The metal design is simple as wellthe mystical silver color of the case has not changed at all. There is also a Space Gray version on sale, outwardly rather modest. There is nothing on the case lid except for the Honor logo.

As you would expect from a 16-inch laptop, itquite large. The bezels around the screen are minimal, although the dimensions seem to be quite large. After 13-inch or 15-inch models, this one may seem unusually bulky, especially since the laptop takes up a lot of space on the table.

Still MagicBook Pro managed to staypretty portable. The laptop weighs 1.7 kg - a lot, however, competitive laptops with the same screen diagonal are heavier than 2 kg. You can take your device with you when traveling.

    Laptop display

Honor MagicBook Pro has a 16.1-inch LCD displayresolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. This is sufficient for general use, although a higher resolution and OLED panel is desirable for professional graphics work.

The coverage of the sRGB palette is 100%, while the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces are only 79%. There are models on the market with more accurate color reproduction.

Aspect ratio - 16:9, although now more vertically elongated 16:10 screens are in trend. However, the difference is small. Unfortunately, the maximum brightness only reaches 329 nits. It will be difficult to make out the contents of the screen in sunlight.

The refresh rate does not exceed 60 Hz, thereforeYou won't be able to take full advantage of Nvidia's discrete graphics card. It also lacks touch support, which was on many previous Honor laptops. On such a large display, it would be convenient, and the large distance between the screen and the keyboard helped to avoid accidental clicks.

    Keyboard and Sound

Although the stroke is small, the keys on the Honor MagicBook Proare pressed nicely. The feedback is good, you don't have to tear yourself away from the screen when typing. The keyboard has a backlight, but there are only two brightness settings.

The large trackpad is easy to use, although forfor constant use, a mouse is better suited. There would be room for a separate numeric keypad, however, Honor decided to use the space for two speakers.

And this decision is justified - the sound is very detailed and high quality. In this regard, the MagicBook Pro is noticeably superior to many modern laptops, even though the bass is a little lacking.

    Connectors and webcam

The power button of the Honor MagicBook Pro is located to the right of the keyboard, with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

The webcam is located between the F6 and F7 keys, alas, there is no support for unlocking Windows Hello. Thanks to this solution, the frames around the display were minimized, although the camera's viewing angle is not the most convenient.

Although the case is thin, the MagicBook Pro has no connectors.enough, despite the fact that the USB-C port is used for charging. Unfortunately, there is no support for Thunderbolt 4 technology. Instead, you have three USB-A ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and full-size HDMI. The latter is rarely seen on modern laptops.

    Component performance

The only difference between the Honor MagicBook Pro versions is the hardware. This model uses an Intel Core i5-10210U instead of a mid-range AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor.

Unfortunately we are getting a 10th generation chipsetnot part of the new Tiger Lake line. This is strange - the 11th generation appeared back in September 2020. On the other hand, we now have a discrete Nvidia GeForce MX350 graphics card when the AMD model had integrated graphics.

Playing games and working with content MagicBook Pro 2021of the year has a significant advantage. Perhaps the laptop does not quite match the Pro console - sometimes there are lags and small freezes. However, the performance is quite high, with 16GB of RAM (DDR4) and a 512GB SSD.

    Battery autonomy

The battery capacity of the Honor MagicBook Pro is 56 Wh, which is not the highest figure for modern laptops.

When watching videos at 720p, the stockenergy is enough for 9 hours of battery life, although models with AMD are much higher - 13 hours. However, it should be enough for a working day. The kit includes a 65W charger, which will restore 50% of the energy in half an hour.

Honor MagicBook Pro cost and alternatives

On sale there is only an assembly of Honor MagicBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD. It costs 85 thousand rubles, although we get a GeForce MX350 video card.

Honor is usually aimed at the more budget segment, therefore, the Pro version can be safely considered the flagship. As far as competitors go, few have the same large display. The exceptions are LG Gram 16, LG Gram 17 and Dell XPS 17.

If you are looking for a laptop with a large screen, the MagicBook Pro has few alternatives. But, you need to choose wisely, the option with AMD is good for everyday tasks, while with Intel - for games and work.

    Total

Honor MagicBook Pro - quality 16-incha laptop that is cheaper than many competitors with the same specifications. Although it uses a 10th generation Intel processor, the Nvidia GeForce MX350 discrete graphics card guarantees good performance.

The MagicBook Pro has a simple design, a great keyboard and small bezels around the display. On the downside, the screen is rather mediocre, and the placement of the webcam in the keyboard is not the best solution.

    Should I buy?

If you are looking for a 16-inch laptop for work and notIf you want to pay more than RUB 85,000, Honor's MagicBook Pro will be an excellent option. While the Intel laptop has its drawbacks, it is generally good in almost every aspect.
