Yes, even with the exhaust pipes, the Koreans got confused and made them also in the form of a logo. And it's nice that all the details of the exterior look harmonious, there are no drop-down elements, so the designers managed to put together the perfect puzzle.

The car is in beige, as we have ontest, it's generally a bomb. This color gives the Genesis G80 a touch of retro charm and makes everyone stare at it. The only pity is that it is almost impossible to meet him on the roads. In cities, there is already enough G80 in black, white, dark green, but there is practically no beige. And the point here is not that buyers do not like this color scheme, but rather they are scared off by the moment that the Koreans for some reason could not get the color on different parts of the car body. If you look closely, especially at the rear, you can see that the color on the metal trunk lid and the plastic bumper do not match. How, why Genesis could not achieve uniform coloration is a mystery to me.

The cabin of the second generation Genesis G80 looksexpensive-rich, especially in light colors. Inside, there is an abundance of wood and metal, leather and soft high-quality plastic, in general, premium in all its glory. Even our ceiling is lined with Alcantara, and the carpets in the G80 have a high pile, however, the company's engineers were too clever with their fasteners, and washers often break out plastic rivets, so ugly holes remain gaping in “rich” carpets. Moreover, I am personally embarrassed by the plastic buttons on the steering wheel, which in execution resemble those in affordable Hyundai cars. Moreover, below we see well-made rollers and keys, apparently also made of plastic, but with a metal-like coating, which look great, are tactilely pleasant and easy to use.

The front panel in the car looks interesting,with smooth transitions and without piling up elements. In the center of the panel rises a huge widescreen 14.5-inch display, which, when viewed from the side, looks a little foreign, but when you are behind the wheel of a car, it no longer seems so. The central tunnel is powerful, with a low automatic transmission washer, similar to that in Jaguar, as well as a large ring of the media system control unit, and all this is framed by a decorative insert made of natural wood. There is, of course, in the cabin and contour lighting with the ability to choose its color, but in terms of saturation and performance, it looks somehow modest in comparison with the same Germans. In general, the interior of the G80 looks interesting, and even expensive, thanks to high-quality materials. But here you sit behind the wheel and do not feel any comfort, or something, as in premium Germans. Everything seems to be fine, but something is missing, perhaps the Koreans should make the driver's seat more prominent, turn the display slightly towards it, add a bend on the front panel in its direction, in general, create a kind of cockpit.

Behind the wheel of the Genesis G80 will fit comfortablya person of almost any height and build, the only thing that thin will be too loose in a chair. Despite the fact that the driver's seat has many electric adjustments, including adjustable cushion length, as well as side bolster adjustment, even I did not manage to compress myself optimally, it was still too spacious and in the corners I rolled a little in the chair. But despite this, I would call the seats very worthy, they could be made a little harder and not so wide, and it would be ideal. And since the profile is correct, the lateral support is pronounced, it remains to adjust them for yourself, and you can drive more than one hundred kilometers in one fell swoop, without even getting tired. Well, if fatigue nevertheless begins to appear, then massage will help to warm up a little, and not only the backs, but also the pillows, and it can work both separately and synchronously. The only strange moment is that the passenger seat, even in the maximum G80 trim levels, is devoid of both massage and bolster adjustment. Apparently, the Koreans believe that only the driver is worthy of these options, although you can order similar settings for the front passenger seat from the Germans.

By myself, with a height of 187 cm, I sit down freely, inmy legs are spacious, my knees do not reach the back of the front seat, and my head does not rest against the ceiling, even despite the presence of a panoramic roof. By the way, despite the fact that the G80 package says that there is a panoramic roof, in fact it is more of a large sunroof with an additional section, since its dimensions are too small to be considered a real panorama. And from the interesting points, I note that the dense hatch curtain does not move back, as usual, but consists of two sections that move in different directions, which looks spectacular. Putting a child in the back is not a problem; there are Isofix mounts along the edges of the rear sofa cushions.

For those who are accustomed to riding in the back with a personalthe driver, it will be convenient that there are adjustment keys on the side of the front passenger seat, and 9.2-inch touch displays are placed on the headrests in the richest trim levels. The media system for rear passengers offers quite standard features. In addition to choosing music and watching videos from external media, it is possible to adjust the climate control, view the navigation map and display pictures from the car's camera. In the massive central armrest at the back are the controls for seat settings, their heating and ventilation, as well as the same media system control washer as the driver. One USB-A connector and two 3.5 mm audio jacks for connecting headphones are hidden in the armrest niche. Boarding / disembarking at the back is free, the doors in the car open wide, but the threshold is still high.

The volume of the luggage compartment is not to say thatlarge, but quite decent, at 424 liters. The seatbacks, at least in our configuration, did not fold, there was only a hatch for long lengths. The shape of the trunk is correct, the opening opens quite wide, but the loading height is high. Power tailgate with contactless opening and dedicated button to close it and lock the car completely.

Media system in the second generation Genesis G80new, built on the NVIDIA DRIVE platform, which is a combination of hardware and software. Its speed is high, there are no slowdowns. As mentioned above, the main display of the car's media system is widescreen, 14.5-inch with FullHD resolution. The screen is touch-sensitive, with a good response and a high-quality oleophobic coating, but it is located far from the driver, and you have to reach for it. To make it more comfortable for the driver to work with the system, the manufacturer duplicated its control, bringing it to a large GENESIS touch washer on the central tunnel, in the center of which is a touch panel that can recognize gestures and handwriting. In addition, as is customary with Hyundai, quick access to the main system options is available from the physical keys that are located above the climate control unit. To be honest, I would prefer the manufacturer to move the screen closer to the driver, since the puck and buttons are convenient to use, but still some actions are faster to perform from the screen.

The set of features of the media system is quitestandard for Genesis/Hyundai. There is built-in navigation with the ability to work in augmented reality mode. The latter is a picture from the front camera, on which navigation tips are superimposed, it looks visual, but, frankly, it is distracting while driving. It would be better if the manufacturer implemented this option similar to the solution in Mercedes-Benz's MBUX, when augmented reality is activated only at maneuver points. Cartography in Genesis is fresh, the system can work with traffic jams, but sometimes it builds routes that are not very correct, so I would not completely rely on it, at least in a large metropolis.

Fortunately, the G80 has support for Android platformsAuto and Apple CarPlay, however, they only work by wire. If the first one is displayed only on half of the screen, then the second one can stretch almost to the full, which visually looks more attractive.

Of course, the media system has a radio section andmusic, as well as voice notes and the signature feature of the Koreans - "Sounds of Nature". While working with basic applications, you can open an additional screen on the right side, which is smaller than the main one in size and displays only a limited set of options like regular navigation, a music player and a clock.

Of the additional chips of the sedan, it is worth notingthe presence of the function of the video recorder. The car can record video from its own cameras, both front and rear, saving data to internal media, from which it is easy to transfer them to a USB flash drive through the connector in the center armrest or immediately watch the video on the car screen. To record ahead, a camera is used, located inside the car behind the saloon mirror, and it writes in FullHD. But to record what is happening behind, a camera on the trunk is used, which must be constantly wiped if you want to get a high-quality picture, and it records video in HD resolution.

Virtual 12.3 inch car dashboard can display 3D image. A 3D mode has been implemented using a parallax barrier, which allows you to get a stereoscopic image on a conventional display without the need to use 3D glasses. Located at the front of a conventional LCD panel, it consists of a layer of material with a series of slits, allowing each eye to see the corresponding set of pixels, which creates a sense of space through the parallax effect. A similar solution can be seen in the Nintendo 3DS console, and in cars this method was used by Land Rover, so that the driver and passenger could see a different picture on the same screen. Unfortunately, a three-dimensional image can only be taken with a 3D camera, and seen on the corresponding display, even the passenger no longer sees the three-dimensional image. The 3D panel looks very impressive for the driver, the instruments, like the rest of the data, are voluminous, and the effect is preserved in any light, although it is more noticeable at night. But this method of demonstrating a 3D image is not suitable for all people, someone may start to have a headache from it, so you can turn off the stereoscopic effect in the settings. There are three options for the design of the virtual dashboard, the images are the same for both normal and 3D modes.

Unfortunately, the digital dashboardalmost completely cut off from the car’s media system, you can’t work with calls or playlists on it, but what kind of work is there, even incoming calls are not displayed on it. Of the additional features for which virtual tidy can be used, there are only hints from standard navigation and the work of driver assistants. But both are displayed in the G80 on a high-quality color projection screen, and most importantly, for some reason, only information on incoming calls and media player information is displayed there. Of course, you cannot work with this data on the projection, but at least it is possible to see the notification, and thanks for that.

Climate control in the G80 is three-zone, with a new blockcontrols in the front, which is a color touch screen with tactile feedback. The latter is not implemented very well, the return is weak, even if you set its settings to the highest level. But at least the manufacturer implemented temperature control in the form of physical rings with notches, which are convenient to use. Plus, the climate control unit is located in such a way that if you put / take out a smartphone from a niche with wireless charging, you often touch the virtual buttons for heating the steering wheel or turning on the air conditioner. For rear passengers, their own convenient climate control unit is available.

The climate system works automaticallymode is very good, does not require adjustments in the process and knows how to properly control air flows, preventing too much airflow. In addition, ventilation and heating of all seats are available.

Of the electronic assistants in the car, there areblind spot monitoring system with indication in the far corners of the mirrors and, most conveniently, on the projection display. There is an intelligent cruise control, which is complemented by a lane marking system and a lane keeping system. It can work at low speeds, but in traffic jams it does not behave in the best way, either slowing down the car too early, or, on the contrary, doing nothing for a very long time. Perhaps the system should be given time to learn, but during the test I did not notice any significant changes in its behavior. But on the track there are no complaints, everything works fine. The system smoothly steers on bends, sees the car in advance and starts to slow down, but it does not seem to analyze the speed of the vehicle in front, so as it approaches, it starts to slow down more intensively. Accelerating to a set speed after the vehicle in front has left your lane is seamless, albeit smooth, but the G80 still accelerates immediately. It is proposed to manage cruise control from the buttons on the steering wheel, and on the dashboard you can display data on the operation of the system. And also there is a system of automatic braking and avoidance of obstacles.

Parking maneuvers are assisted by sensors in front andon the back, as well as an all-round camera with a very good picture. When reversing, the screen displays warnings about perpendicular traffic, and in an emergency, the car can brake on its own. There is also a feature of the Koreans with the display of pictures from the side cameras in the wells of the dashboard when the turn signals are turned on, which gives an additional overview when maneuvering. As well as the remote parking function, which allows you to park the car in a narrow pocket from the key or, conversely, take it out of there.

The Genesis cabin is almost always quiet, althoughtrack and there was noise from the road and aerodynamic noise, but insignificant. The suspension gently handles almost all bumps, and can only shake at too much protruding joints or large potholes with sharp edges. But in general, there are no complaints about these parameters for the G80, the car meets the criteria for a premium sedan and may well compete with the Germans on these points.

In Russia, the new Genesis G80 originally appearedwith two turbocharged petrol engines: a 2.5-liter in-line four-cylinder (249 hp, 422 Nm) and a 3.5-liter V6 (379 hp, 530 Nm). Later, a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 199 hp was added to them. All variants are all-wheel drive and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

I was able to test the car only withgasoline engines. I must say right away that the older one is, of course, more interesting, plus he has such a noble roar that many people like. But the 2.5-liter engine is not bad either, it is also enough with a margin of power both in the city and on the highway. The engine-gearbox connection is set up well, the machine is obedient and fast, and it almost always works correctly and without jerks. But all the settings in the G80 are made, apparently, not for the driver, but for the passenger, since the speed increase is smooth, and the car slows down gently, although the developers could not reach the E-class. The control of the G80 lacks sharpness, it steers not only loosely, but simply too softly, there is not even any excitement. Moreover, the sport mode does not change the nature of the car, but only makes the steering wheel heavier and sharpens the sensitivity of the gas pedal.

In terms of fuel consumption, a car with 2.I was unpleasantly surprised by the 5-liter engine, as it consumed an average of 8.9 liters per 100 km on the highway, which is more than the 6.9 liters declared by the manufacturer for this mode. And in the city, consumption easily flies over 10 liters, usually about 12-13 liters per 100 km. At the same time, a car with a 3.5-liter V6 consumed about 14 liters per 100 km in urban mode, I could not squeeze less out of it, but it also did not work much more. So if there is an opportunity and it’s not a pity to pay an increased transport tax, then maybe it’s worth overpaying for a more powerful engine, especially since the younger one turned out to be not so economical.

At today's prices, the alignment is such thaton the manufacturer's website, the Genesis G80 starts at 5,805,000 rubles and asks for 7,705,000 rubles for the top version. Online sales, unfortunately, stopped, the system says that all the cars are over. Dealers of the same brand of car are available, but the latter easily add from 1 to 1.5 million to the RRP, depending on the configuration, so that the flagship modification comes out already at a price of more than 9,000,000 rubles.
