Smartphone instead of documents
In the application "Gosuslugi Avto" appearedan electronic version of the driver's license, there is also a digital copy of the STS - the second main document that traffic inspectors require from drivers. This became possible thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The mobile application "Gosuslugi Avto" has been operating since 2021. Now it is used by more than 2.5 million Russian drivers. The pilot project was launched in several regions, and will now work throughout the country. To present electronic documents, you need to select a driver's license or the desired CTC in the application and click "Submit Documents". The traffic police inspector reads the appeared QR code through a special program, and the data is automatically downloaded from the database of the State traffic inspectorate. At the same time, the State traffic inspectorate reminds that even if there are electronic documents in the application, drivers are still required to have a driver's license in its original form. “It is possible to present a driver's license and CTC electronically using the application even without access to the Internet. Available in the application: electronic rights, STS in electronic form, registration of the European protocol online, payment and appeal of fines, car check service, registration for car registration and replacement of a driver’s license, ”the Ministry of Digital Development reports.
At the same time, the head of the department, Maksut Shadayev, intends tofurther expand the capabilities of the smartphone as a substitute for paper documents. “The perspective is that a smartphone, which is in the hands of a person, should replace some of the documents that people now have to carry additionally. All in one device, in one application. It is clear that we are talking about some everyday situations, but everyday situations are just the most frequent cases. Our task is to make it possible to show a smartphone when buying alcohol or when entering a business center,” the minister said at a briefing on the results of the Digital Economy national program for 2022.

Telegram channel instead of banking app
Affected by Western sanctions, VTB Bank announcedon the launch of a full-fledged online bank in the Telegram messenger. The average time for conducting daily financial transactions in this case will be halved. “The service will be available to owners of smartphones of all operating systems, and for iOS users it will become a reliable alternative to an application from the AppStore,” the bank said. The digital bank will be created on the basis of the VTB chat bot in Telegram. To enter the system, you need to log in to the channel with the chatbot, as is done when entering VTB Online, receive an SMS with a confirmation code, after which you can conduct banking transactions. On subsequent logins, only the code from SMS will be sufficient for authorization. “The launch of the bank in Telegram will take place in several stages. At first, the service will cover half of the financial services most demanded by customers: viewing the balance of cards and accounts in VTB, transferring money through the SBP, replenishing a mobile phone account, ”the press release says. Gradually, Telegram users will be able to pay using a QR code and the ability to generate a QR code, transaction history, transfers between their accounts, batch payment of bills, transferring me2me from their card in another bank to a card in VTB. All day-to-day banking services, as well as the release of some digital products, will become available on Telegram by the end of 2023.
Yandex.Maps will take care of the suspension of the car
Application "Yandex.Maps has received an update with new features. Now it can warn drivers about speed bumps and ferry crossings. Also, the driver has the opportunity to choose a route that avoids bad roads. Voice notifications will inform you in advance about the "speed bump" if the car is moving at a speed exceeding 40 kilometers per hour. Earlier, in December, the developers announced a major update of Yandex.Maps, which will update the look of roads, provide more detailed markings, for example, safety islands. It is also stated that complex interchanges will become three-dimensional. In addition, the visualization of buildings will become more detailed, and their appearance will come closer to the real thing. Stops, underpasses and even trees will appear on the maps.
When the space janitor flies
The problem of space debris is separated from us bythousands of kilometers, but it can affect everyday life if the global positioning system suddenly fails. And the debate about how to solve it has been going on for many years. But experts from the Moscow Aviation Institute hope that already in 2029-2030 it will be possible to begin to solve it in practice by launching into orbit a space janitor - a special ship that, using an onboard ion beam injection system, will be able to move large-sized debris, for example, those that have served their time satellites, upper stages, third stages of rockets. It was developed by the Research Institute of Applied Mechanics and Electrodynamics of the Moscow Aviation Institute together with the satellite-building company ISS Reshetnev and the head scientific institute of Roscosmos TsNIIMash. It is assumed that with the help of an ion beam it will be possible to give space debris objects weighing up to two tons an acceleration to transfer them to other orbits. These can be either higher safe orbits, or deceleration orbits with a short residence time, from which the debris will descend on its own. One such autonomous vehicle will be able to remove 7-10 objects per year, which will be enough to prevent further exponential growth, and if 20 objects are removed, this will lead to a gradual cleaning of the orbit. In order for the project to work, it will be necessary to maintain funding for research work from the government until the end of this year.

Redesign of Wikipedia
More than ten years design mainthe online directory of the planet, the Wikipedia* resource (the site violates the law of the Russian Federation), remained unchanged, but now its administration announces a large-scale alteration. Although it is stated that the changes have already affected 94% of all articles of the resource and the English version has been fully translated into it, in fact, the new design is far from being seen everywhere. On the other hand, we managed to keep all the existing functionality, increase the article search speed by 30%, move and change the language switching system, add a navigation bar, which is now available all the time, etc. This applies to both the desktop and mobile versions, although I would argue with the authors of the redesign about the increased usability of the latter.
Google shut down Stadia
Only recently I'm in the material about the end of lifedevice cycle said that the only way to “kill” a gadget that a manufacturer has is to turn it off remotely. And Google decided to demonstrate that it not only has such an arsenal, but is also actively used. True, it’s still not that Google was going to turn off too old smartphones, but that the Stadia cloud service will stop working because its servers will be turned off. By the way, Stadia gamepads will not stop working because of this, on the contrary, they have unlocked the ability to connect via Bluetooth, so using them with games not through the Google service will work without problems. Google's three years of cloud gaming work has resulted in only the technologies that the company now intends to use to improve YouTube and Google Play.
Semiconductor one atom thick
MIT engineersInstitute announced that they have developed a technology for creating two-dimensional semiconductors with a thickness of only one atom. The reason for the development of such planar ultrathin transistors was the problem, known since the 1960s, of reducing the size of the transistor to a value where atomic silicon structures lose their semiconductor properties. The new method, called “non-epitaxial single-crystal growth,” involves growing 2D materials on industrial silicon wafers. The developers claim that the resulting 2D materials were defect-free, which means that the technology is ready for mass launch. However, it is still a big question how ready the industry is for mass production of wafers less than a few nanometers.

Seal robots will help in the flight to Mars
Japanese robotic seals Paro have been known for more than20 years of age and is considered an effective tool for helping those with autism, dementia, the elderly and in dealing with stress. Elderly autistic people are not yet launched into space and are not planned, but astronauts will have plenty of stress on the way to Mars. And AI-powered Japanese seal robots are a great way to deal with it. What was confirmed during six two-week independent simulations conducted at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah, USA. If in the first week of the simulation only half of the subjects turned to the seal robot for “psychological support”, then the rest resorted to communication with Paro for the second week. So Paro is very likely to become the first robots that will directly help people in the exploration of Mars.
Laser as a lightning rod
A radical new way to prevent hitslightning into some valuable object was proposed by European and Singaporean physicists. If the design of the lightning rod has not changed in any way since the 18th century, except for the shape and materials used, then studies conducted in 2021 on the slope of Mount Sentis in Switzerland confirmed that it is possible to deflect and redirect lightning using a laser. For the past 20 years, scientists have been unsuccessfully trying to launch natural and artificial lightning with a laser, and thanks to a special strategy for preparing very short but powerful pulses of visible laser radiation, it was possible to deflect lightning discharges. The principle is based on the phenomenon of filamentation, a special form of spontaneous focusing of ultrashort laser radiation pulses, which occurs as a result of the interaction of light particles and molecules of gases or liquids. Scientists suggest using such laser lightning rods to protect large infrastructure facilities like airports, but there are some doubts that the laser will replace iron sticks in the near future. During the experiments, a terawatt telecommunications tower was involved, and the efficiency of the installation was not one hundred percent.
Innovative censer developed by the Russian Academy of Sciences
And finally, in the last paragraph, we will return toRussian innovations. This time, not too serious, but requiring careful reflection on what was written. So, the news appeared on January 19, and not on the website of the Panorama news agency, but reports that a catalytic church censer was developed at the G.K. Boreskov Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The advantage of the design compared to a traditional censer is that instead of smoke, only the aroma of incense and warmth are produced. In general, it's like a vape, but for church purposes. Less harm to the health of those present at the service and the clergy. And such a censer, unlike coal, can last almost forever. It is a catalytic propane-butane burner, which is integrated into the lower part of the classic censer. The reaction of representatives of official religious organizations was not published, but it is reported that the innovative censer has passed "field tests" in the Church of All Saints, in the Russian land shone, in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. Which, in general, is logical: if we are to introduce innovations, then in the temple at the Academy of Sciences.
