According to the editors of the Journal ofBiological Chemistry, researchers led by Professor Mac Franco, have discovered that tumor cells reproduce an oxidizing agent and a specific nitrating agent (peroxynitrite). They affect the amino acid composition of the body’s proteins, and specifically tyrosine. When tyrosine is altered, it “reprograms” cells for faster energy production.
To maintain constant growth, tumorcells are changing the way they produce energy and building proteins. We found that peroxynitrite, the most powerful oxidizing agent produced by cells, controls the metabolic changes that occur in the tumor cells of the nervous system, which supports their growth. We believe that there are specific proteins that acquire a new function that they did not have before, and this new function can control tumor growth.
Moreover, in normal, not affected by tumorthe process of tissues, peroxynitrite is not produced. Moreover, it is precisely because of peroxynitrite that healthy cells are often affected, which can lead to the development of significant complications during the course of the disease.
