In early October, Fairphonepresented the next generation of modular smartphone Fairphone 4. All models of previous years (Fairphone 2 and Fairphone 3) were distinguished by high maintainability and invariably received 10 points out of 10 in maintainability testing from iFixit experts.
JerryRigEverything YouTube channel author ZachNelson decided to test how the modular design of the Fairphone 4 smartphone, which provides ease of repair, can affect the durability of the device. The Fairphone 4 model is equipped with a 6.83-inch IPS screen, has a front camera of 25 megapixels, a triangular module of the main camera is equipped with three sensors. The hardware base of the Fairphone 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 750G processor. Autonomous work is supported by a 3905 mAh battery supporting 30W fast charging.
During the traditional disassembly of the Fairphone smartphone4 Zach Nelson made sure that to remove all the modules, you just need to snap off the back plastic cover and unscrew the 12 screws. All modules can be easily removed and replaced by people with no special skills. Even replacing the display module took the expert only a few minutes: it took 8 more screws to be unscrewed.
After reassembling, Nelson proceeded tothe main stage of testing: checking the housing for resistance to scratches, fire and checking the flexural strength. The first scratches appeared only when the screen was exposed to objects with a hardness of 6 and higher on the Mohs scale. At the same time, the plastic back and frame of the smartphone were easily scratched even with relatively soft objects.
Flexural strength test of the body as inthe side of the screen and the side of the back cover, the Fairphone 4 withstood perfectly: the case did not crack or even deform. As a result, Zach Nelson noted that the Fairphone 4's only drawback is the fact that the smartphone is only sold in Europe, while US consumers would appreciate a rugged, reliable and easily repairable device. In Europe, the Fairphone 4 starts at 579 euros.
