Enthusiast from Russia doubled the memory capacity of the GeForce RTX 2060 video card (video)

Last week, insiders spreadinformation that NVIDIA will restart GeForce RTX graphics cards, doubling the amount of video memory to 12 GB compared to 6 GB in the original version. The Russian blogger, the author of the YouTube channel VIK-on decided to get ahead of NVIDIA and independently undertook the modernization of the video card with the help of available tools. The video published on his channel also contains the results of testing an improved version of the video card to check the performance increase when used in popular scenarios.

The basis for the rework was the GeForce video cardRTX 2060 based on Turing TU106 GPU with 1920 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR6 video memory with 192-bit bus (14 Gbps). The upgrade process allowed to increase the amount of video memory up to 12 GB while maintaining the bandwidth. The improved graphics card was brought into production, and the increased memory was confirmed using the GPU-Z application.

Based on the results of testing in the UNIGINE benchmarkSuperposition, as well as when checking the efficiency of Ethereum mining, the author of the channel came to the conclusion that the performance of the modified video card remained at the level of the original model. More detailed tests of the converted video card, including those on gaming applications, will be carried out by professional testers on the PRO Hi-Tech channel.
The official presentation of the GeForce RTX 2060 with 12 GB of memory will take place on December 7 of this year.
