Long and healthy life, we owe immunesystem - if it were not, even a common cold would be a fatal disease for a person. However, even she sometimes makes mistakes, and with her hard work she can cause allergies or even multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University of Toronto found that during the fight against immunity with oral bacteria, caries and breakdown of dental fillings can occur.
It is known that tooth decay is due to bacteria, which stick to the teeth in the form of plaque and secrete acid that destroys enamel, dentin and even dental fillings. To combat them in the oral cavity there are cells of the immune system, called neutrophils, and when they interact with microbes, a reverse, destructive effect may occur.
The fight of neutrophils with bacteria can be compared to killing a fly on the wall with a sledgehammer.

Neutrophils themselves cannot damage teeth.- Problems arise when bacteria begin to reduce the amount of their minerals. After weakening, the enzymes secreted by neutrophils begin to damage the teeth. Enamel, dentin and even fillings begin to quickly deteriorate - this can explain such a short service life of filled teeth lasting about seven years.
The news may seem disturbing, but in allThere are pluses - now scientists are aware of the negative impact of the enhanced work of immunity, and can create methods of protection. It is possible that in the future the life of the filled teeth will be much longer.
