Does our brain have sex?

Is there a difference between the brains of men and women? Are there any intellectual differences related to gender? Why do representatives of different sexes often perceive absolutely identical life situations in different ways? A special science called neurobiology has the answers to all these questions. Scientists working in this scientific field are studying the structure and development of the human nervous system.

What is neurobiology?

Neurobiology is a science that studies the structure and functioning of the nervous system. In addition, neuroscientists also include the study of human and animal behavior in their area of interest.

Brain study, at its core, isinterdisciplinary science, bordering on genetics, physiology and biochemistry. So, it was neurobiology that completely refuted the fact that it was claimed that the human brain is plastic and can absorb new information only at a young age. According to the results of new research, the brain of any living creature is able to learn all its life, as well as be able to grow, adapt to new conditions and change. According to the basic principles of neurobiology, training a person in any new skills can develop the brain at absolutely any age. At the same time, if it is deprived of the opportunity to manifest its cognitive abilities, then the brain cells may lose their ability to plasticity.

Is a man’s brain different from a woman’s brain?

Despite the fact that for a very long time it was believedthat men use the left hemisphere more often and women use the right hemisphere, there is no scientific evidence that this is true. The only difference that scientists were able to notice was that the male brain contains a larger number of neural connections within each of the hemispheres, while the female brain contains the same number of neural connections in the space between the hemispheres. Whether this fact can somehow affect the way of thinking of both sexes is still unknown.

Who is more likely to suffer from mental illness: men or women?

Despite the almost complete identity of the brainmen and women, the prevalence of certain mental illnesses varies by gender. So, women are more susceptible to diseases such as anxiety, depression and anorexia, while men often suffer from Tourette’s syndrome, dyslexia and hyperactivity.

According to studies, women are most often prone to anxiety disorders, while men are hyperactive.

Does our brain have sex?

From the school biology course, we all have long knownthat at the time of fertilization, 2 types of chromosome sets can arise: XX chromosomes, which mean that a girl will be born, or XY-chromosomes, which means that a boy will be born. It is the Y chromosome that triggers the testosterone production process, which is responsible for the development of the male fetus.

A few months after pregnancy, our brain begins to actively launch male or female hormones, thanks to which the fetus begins to develop gender identity.

Despite the fact that before the onset of the three-yearthe age of the child does not correlate with any particular gender, after reaching this age, he begins to actively include awareness of his gender identity during the adoption of certain decisions. So, children aged three to five years most often prefer to play with children only of their gender.

From the age of three, children become aware of their gender identity.

Despite the fact that our floor is laid by a setchromosomes still in the womb, there is an opinion that the sex of our brain does not always coincide with the physiological sex. Due to the fact that a lack of satisfaction about one’s sex can arise already in childhood, the issue of creating gender identity is still controversial, giving rise to a large number of topics for discussion.
