Using a compact and cheap single boardRaspberry Pi computer, the developers created a CutiePi tablet with an 8-inch screen. The new device is based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 Lite, and is also equipped with software that turns the Linux-based Raspbian operating system into a touchscreen.
Currently, a working prototype of the tablet has been created. Open source allows enthusiasts to create such devices on their own.
Using the compact Raspberry Pi ComputeModule allows you to place the tablet in a thin case. The touch interface consists of a virtual keyboard and supports the management of touch gestures, including scaling.
The specifications of the tablet are as follows: 8-inch IPS MIPI DSI LCD (1280 x 800), USB-A port, microSD card reader and 6 GPIO pins. Battery life is provided by a 4800 mAh battery.
Geometric dimensions 21 x 12.5 x 1.3 cm, weight about 0.35 kg. The devices should go on sale before the end of 2019, the price of CutiePi is still unknown.
