The crew of the manned spacecraft "Soyuz MS-12" successfullydocked with the International Space Station (ISS). The astronauts landed six hours after the launch, the docking took place automatically under the control of the crew members of the Main Operations Group of the ISS Russian Segment. Reports about it "Roskosmos".
The crew "Union MS-12" consists of three people -Alexey Ovchinin, Nick Hayes and Christina Cook. The first two were part of the Soyuz MS-10 crew - a ship, whose launch ended in an accident 2.5 minutes after launch. The astronauts remained unharmed due to the emergency rescue system: it was she who took the ship with the crew to a safe distance from the failed rocket (the capsule landed about 400 kilometers from Baikonur).
Nevertheless, the second launch was successful andthe crew went to the ISS already on the new ship. The launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome took place at 10:14 pm Moscow time. The ship made four orbits around the Earth, which allowed it to dock with the Russian Dawn module in just six hours.
Members of the new crew should return to Earth inOctober 2019 - so they will spend 204 days in orbit. It is planned that they will hold several spacewalks: on March 29 the first spacewalk of two women is already scheduled. They will be Christina Cook from Soyuz MS-12 and Ann McClain, who is already on the ISS.
Two weeks ago the ship Crew Dragon alsosuccessfully docked with the ISS. True, there were no living people inside the ship: they were replaced by the dummy of the main character of the series of science fiction films “Alien” - Ripley. Despite the concerns of Ilona Mask, the SpaceX Crew Demo-1 mission was successful, and the device docked without any problems with the International Space Station.
It is assumed that it will be Crew Dragonsubsequently delivering American astronauts to the ISS, which will allow NASA to stop using the Soyuz spacecraft. True, SpaceX has not yet launched this ship into space with people.
