Chinese space telescope Kuafu-1 showed its first picture of the Sun (2 photos)

Chinese space telescope Kuafu-1,designed to track the Sun, transmitted to Earth its first photograph of our star, which was taken in the X-ray range of the spectrum. This is reported by the Xinhua news agency, citing data from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The report said that the Kuafu-1 telescopesent back to Earth a snapshot of the solar flares that occurred on November 11th. To obtain an image, the device used equipment with hard modulation of x-rays (HXI).

One of the scientists of the Kuafu-1 missionnoted that the telescope is still at the testing stage, but already now the imaging effect is very good, thanks to which scientists can identify the details of solar flares and the fine solar structure. In the presented image, the Kuafu-1 captured M-class flares. Although the telescope can be used to observe the Sun throughout the year, from May to August it can operate no more than 18 minutes a day, as it will be in the Earth's shadow.

Recall that the Kuafu-1 apparatus, which is also knownas the Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), was launched into outer space on October 9, 2022. It is assumed that with its help, scientists will be able to establish a connection between the magnetic field of the Sun and coronal mass ejections, which are eruptions of large plasma clouds from the outer atmosphere of the star. It is expected that the telescope will be able to operate in space for at least four years.
