CarDroid - $ 74 Android car computer (video)


CarDroid Innovations has developeda miniature dongle that can replace Android Auto with a full version of Android 9.0 Pie. The CarDroid Mini PC is equipped with a quad-core or eight-core processor, as well as up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage. The device raised over $ 170,000 on Indiegogo's crowdfunding platform, representing 33,000% of the company's requested amount. The manufacturer plans to start shipping from next month.

Compact computer CarDroid works underrunning Android 9 Pie. Depending on the configuration, the developers offer devices with 2 or 4 GB of RAM, 16 or 64 GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD up to 128 GB. The hardware of CarDroid runs on a 4 or 8 core processor. The specification does not indicate the types of chips, but experts suggest that these could be the Amlogic S905X2 and Amlogic S912 platforms.

All CarDroid models are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi and GPS, and built-in microphone. CarDroid is only compatible with wired Android Auto head units, not wireless systems found in newer BMWs.


After installing CarDroid, the user will receivethe ability to work with the Android 9.0 operating system without certain restrictions in Android Auto, which will allow the use of various applications. Car drivers will now be able to freely work with Netflix, Google Maps or YouTube.

Basic version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GBPersistent memory can be purchased by pre-order for $ 74. The model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory will cost $ 104. Delivery will begin in December 2020.
