Biologists presented a method of "instant" optical 3D-printing of living tissues (video)

The future of world medicine is undoubtedly connected withcell engineering, part of which was the unique method of volumetric bioprinting, the development of which was worked by researchers from Switzerland and the Netherlands. The experience of printing fragments of organs and other tissues on a special 3D printer in medicine is already quite impressive, but the question of the viability of cells produced in this way still remained open.

A new method requires biocompatiblehydrogel and stem cells, from which tissues of a given shape are created in a matter of seconds by optical printing. With the participation of a laser, the printer forms a ready-made “frame” in a hydrogel with stem cells, into which it then remains to implant blood vessels from endothelial cells.

In the "piggy bank" of scientists there are such samples: fabric construction a few centimeters in size; heart-like valve; meniscus and complex shape of the femur. They also managed to print more complex interconnected structures.

“Unlike conventional bioprinting (slow,layer-by-layer process) our technology is faster and offers greater design freedom without jeopardizing cell viability, ”said Damien Lotery, one of the co-authors of the study, so evaluated the results of the work.

Scientists guarantee that the use of newThis technology will make it possible to organize the mass production of artificial tissues and organs at an incredible speed, which will make it possible to provide personal implants for the need to replace diseased organs, and to use the created organ for testing drugs and other experiments.
