belated. Hisense Hi Reader - my dear reader

A few days ago, a curious device called the Hisense Hi Reader went on sale in China.

Hisense loves to have fun on itshome in China with electronic ink. Suffice it to recall last year's Hisense A7 CC smartphone. But I do not remember that they previously released devices that are readers in their purest form, i.e. devoid of a smartphone part. And the newbie is just that.

Another curious moment.All modern readers known to me have approximately “bookish” proportions. 12:9 or something. And Hisense Hi Reader is elongated. Just like modern smartphones. Smartphones now have typical screen aspect ratios around 19:9 – 20:9. Well, here is 18:9.

See. Here is the Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro smartphone with a screen diagonal of 6.67″ (107 cm²). Its dimensions are 165.3 x 76.8 x 9.4 mm and the weight is 215 grams.

The Hi Reader has a screen diagonal of 6.7″ (116 cm²).The manufacturer does not name the width and height of the device. But they are easy to estimate from the available pictures. I got 171 x 87 x 7.5 mm. And the weight is 177 grams. Those. slightly larger than a smartphone, but slightly lighter.

About the characteristics.

The screen is classic electronic ink of an incomprehensible generation. Not colored, i.e. only 16 shades of grey. There is a backlight without color temperature adjustment. Resolution - 900 × 1800 (300 ppi).

Iron filling - at the level of normalmodern budget smartphones. Those who are “not horror-horror”. Chipset Unisoc Tiger T610 - smartphones based on it give out in AnTuTu around 200 thousand points. 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage. The battery is 3000 mAh, which by the standards of e-books is simply gorgeous.

There is Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The software is based on Android 10. There are no cameras at all, which is logical.

But the price is pretty sad. At the start of sales in China, Hisense Hi Reader will cost as much as ¥1,799 (₽27,000, $283). As you might guess, for this money it is quite possible to buy a very good smartphone ...
