  • ASUS' expansion into the OLED notebook market continues. I was recently able to test the new ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED from a higher end with NVIDIA Studio.

    </ p>

The Vivobook Pro 14X OLED is available in two variants - Cool Silver with Intel Core i7-11370H/i5-11300H or Black Black with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H/Ryzen 9 5900HX.

The manufacturer positions the Pro 14X OLED inas a laptop for content creators associated with the creative industry. There is support for NVIDIA Studio software, and we get ASUS DialPad, that is, a virtual interface integrated into the touchpad. In the review, I will talk about the model on Intel Core i7-11370H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050.

    Design and appearance

People familiar with Asus laptops by the look of Vivobook Pro 14X OLED will understand that they are dealing with a device from this brand.

The tested model in Cool Silver lookedaesthetically. ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED, while not the most compact 14-inch laptop, is very mobile. You can easily take it with you on a trip - it weighs 1.45 kg with dimensions of 31.74 × 22.85 × 1.79 cm.

The metal case deserves praise -rigid, does not bend and looks solid. On the lid there is a slightly protruding manufacturer's logo, and below we find rubber feet. The one closer to cooling runs through the entire length, and its height contributes to good heat dissipation.

Things are much more interesting when we lift the lid.ASUS has used a multi-colored keyboard that looks great. The side keys are slightly darker, with the orange Esc button and a slightly deeper Power key setting the character. The last decision is important, as it's harder to accidentally turn off your computer while typing.

The power key has a built-in fingerprint reader that is fast, accurate, and compatible with Windows Hello.

The laptop stands firmly on the table with rubber feet, and the hinge is flexible enough to open the lid with one hand. The screen tilt angle is about 150 degrees.

    Connectors and ports

The ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED has a decent amount of interfaces for connecting.

While there is Thunderbolt 4 (supports USB Power Delivery), a newer type of HDMI would be nice. Too bad we only get 2×USB 2.0 Type-A instead of USB 3.0. The location of ports and connectors is as follows:

    • 1×USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
    • 2×USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 1×Thunderbolt 4 (video/power)
    • 1 × HDMI 1.4
    • 1x3.5mm combo
    • 1×DC power input
    • 1×MicroSD card reader

The port layout is normal, two USB 2.0 are placed on the left edge, the rest - on the right. There is a separate DC power input, so you can connect other wires or peripherals.

    Screen without compromise

Since the manufacturer put OLED in the product name, you can probably guess what kind of panel it is.

The ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED screen features an impressive 14-inch OLED (16:10) with a 0.2ms response time, 600 nits peak brightness and 90Hz refresh rate.

The bezels are thin, which matches the display ratioto the body 86%. OLED provides a very wide color gamut with 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage and 133% sRGB. There's also DisplayHDR 600 True Black certification.

Above the screen is a 720p HD webcam withphysical shutter for privacy. The screen has a glossy finish, but thanks to OLED technology, it can be used even in brightly lit rooms. There is no touch control here.

    Keyboard and touchpad

As I wrote earlier, the ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED keyboard looks interesting due to the variety of color shades.

In practice, we are dealing with an island type withbacklit and keys with 1.35 mm travel. Due to the size of the laptop, there is no number block. The location and size of the keys, as well as their pitch, make typing extremely comfortable, I quickly got used to the ASUS laptop.

The manufacturer has implemented a 3-stage keyboard backlight. But due to the bright body and keys, it is not perfectly visible, even in the dark.

The Vivobook Pro 14X OLED touchpad is smooth thanks toPET coating. The premium addition is the ASUS DialPad, which fits perfectly with the laptop's target audience. According to the manufacturer, DialPad is a virtual interface integrated into the touchpad, giving full control over settings in compatible Adobe software.

Professionals will appreciate the additional control options in Adobe programs. Although during normal use of the laptop I had to accidentally turn on the DialPad, it was annoying at times.

How to create with ASUS DialPad on Vivobook Pro | ASUS Performance & Software

The ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED tested was equipped with an i7-11370H processor, which debuted in the first quarter of 2021.

The chip was produced using 10-nm technology, and its 4 cores can operate at a frequency of up to 4.8 GHz in turbo mode.

Responsible for the graphics graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 with 4GB GDDR6. The hardware is complemented by a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD. As well as pre-installed without the possibility of expansion LPDDR4 RAM with a capacity of 16 GB.

Please note that the GPUVivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7400) is supported by the NVIDIA Studio driver. Unlike the standard Game Ready found in gaming laptops, NVIDIA Studio focuses on optimizing software and applications for professionals.

Of course, nothing prevents you from using a laptop ingames. Fortnite in Full HD with high graphics settings averaged 50 fps. A powerful processor, a fast SSD, and an efficient graphics card make Windows 10 Pro very efficient. Of course, a free upgrade to Windows 11 is soon possible.

I tested the Vivobook Pro 14X OLED laptop withAdobe Creative Cloud software and can't complain about performance. Tests confirm that we are dealing with a noticeable performance increase compared to devices based on the Intel Core i5-1135G7.

    Noise and sound

I want to praise the culture of using ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED - when working with a web browser and several applications, the cooling system is extremely quiet.

The fans of the IceCool Plus cooling system only start under heavy load.

Although Harman / Kardon speakers are responsible for the audio(Mainstream version), they are located at the bottom of the case. Therefore, the sound is a little muffled, but if you look through the prism of everyday tasks, there is not much to complain about. Emitters are ideal for movies or music.

Connectivity and autonomy ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED

Of course, Vivobook Pro 14X OLED supports modern Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1 (Dual band) communication standards, which work flawlessly.

Power is provided by a 3-cell lithium-ionbattery with a capacity of 63 W / h. Charging is done with the included ø4.5 120W AC power adapter or USB port. supporting Power Delivery.

During office work, the laptop should work 8–9hours on battery, which is a good result. Autonomy will decrease if we use the computer for more demanding tasks like video processing or playing games.

    Total

If you're a content creator or looking for a powerful mid-range laptop, the ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED is a worthy choice.

Yes, there could be more connectors, especiallyit's a shame for USB 2.0 and HDMI 1.4. I also miss the USB-C and SD card slot. However, the MicroSD standard is more popular among content creators, which is probably what ASUS was guided by by placing a smaller card reader.

    Should I buy

ASUS once again managed to create a reasonablesolution at a balanced price. Vivobook Pro 14X OLED will be appreciated by professionals who need a high-quality screen when processing videos or photos. Materials, comfortable keyboard, good battery and excellent trackpad testify to the high quality.
