Asus ROG Strix G17 is unlikely to be included in the listsbest gaming laptop on the market, but it's relatively inexpensive for its specs. The Ryzen 9 7845HX processor and RTX 4060 graphics card are installed here, which guarantee high frame rates in any modern games.
The only problem is the battery is drainingwithin two to three hours, even if you just surf the Internet. However, for a gaming laptop this is not such a serious drawback, because for maximum performance you still need to connect to the power supply.

Design and features
Externally, the ROG Strix G17 is very similar to another laptop from Asus – Scar 17, which costs more.
It has the same side frames made of aluminum, andthe body is covered with plastic. The device is quite reliable and pleasant to use, but it doesn't look like a premium laptop like the Razer Blade 15. The device weighs 2.8 kg - significantly less than some other competitors in this segment.
The case has a gray color, and on the back panelthere is the familiar ROG logo. Around the bottom you will see colored lighting, like the Scar 17. In general, the laptop looks stylish - the design is interesting and memorable, and there are not many distracting elements, so you can easily take the device with you to the office.
For any gaming laptop, one of the most important aspects is the display, but the Asus ROG Strix G17 does not disappoint in this regard.
It uses a gorgeous IPS screen with1440p resolution and a huge 240Hz refresh rate. There is support for G-Sync and Nvidia Advanced Optimus technology, which is capable of dynamically switching between a discrete and integrated graphics card depending on the task being performed.
The display diagonal is 17.3 inches, and the brightnessreaches 400 nits. The contrast ratio is 1000:1, which is standard for IPS panels. DCI-P3 color space coverage is 96%.
ROG Strix G17 Connectors
Asus is increasingly installing connectors on the rear on its larger laptops, and this also applies to the new ROG Strix G17.
This solution seems successful - there will be no cablesdisturb you, which is important for the gaming model. At the back there are two USB-C, a charging connector, an Ethernet port and HDMI 2.1. On the left side there are two USB-A and a headphone jack, and on the right there is nothing. The presence of connectors on the left turns out to be convenient - it’s easier to connect an external keyboard or mouse, but one USB could be added to the right side of the case.
The important thing is that one of the USB-C connectors can beuse for recharging. Usually the function is found only on flagship-level laptops, so its presence on the G17 was a pleasant surprise. Of course, during gaming it is better to use a full-fledged adapter with a power of 280 W, but sometimes USB-C is also suitable for quickly restoring energy.
Keyboard and touchpad
In recent years, Asus has greatly improved the keyboards on its gaming laptops - they are suitable for both gaming and long typing.
ROG Strix G17 is not inferior to others in this regardmodels of the company, because the keys have deep travel, and a set of multimedia buttons on top helps when watching videos. There's even a numeric keypad on the right, although these buttons are slightly smaller in size than the others. The WASD keys have transparent plastic caps, so the buttons are visually different from the rest.
But lately this can be seen inmainly on budget models. However, the keyboard on the ROG Strix G17 is excellent and one of the best among all gaming laptops. There is a trackpad under the spacebar, but it is not the largest. But it supports Windows gestures and has protection against accidental palm presses.
The Asus ROG Strix G17 turns out to be a more powerful laptop than its specs would suggest.
It is powered by Ryzen 9 7845HX processor, scoring 13,795 points in the multi-core GeekBench 6 test. In single-core mode, it is not as impressive (2,796 points), but the result is also good. However, more importantly, the laptop performs great in games.
The 3D Mark Time Spy test gives a result of 11,064points, and in this regard, the ROG Strix G17 is not inferior to many more expensive competitors. The frame rate in games is also pleasing. In Red Dead Redemption 2 with Ultra settings and 1080p resolution you can expect 78 fps, and in Cyberpunk 2077 - 80 fps. With a resolution of 1440p, the frame rate is 62/49 fps, respectively.
The Nvidia video card supports Deep Learning Super Sampling 3 (DLSS 3) technology. It is largely thanks to this that the RTX 4060 is capable of delivering such high frame rates.
Autonomy Asus ROG Strix G17
The ROG Strix G17 has only one serious drawback - its short operating time on a single charge.
Gaming laptops are not designed forlong-term use away from a power source, but the results of this model are especially depressing. Even with normal web surfing, the battery runs out after just three and a half hours, not to mention playing games.
However, the operating time can be slightly extended ifreduce the screen refresh rate from 240 Hz to 60 Hz - this is done in the Asus Armory Crate application. Nvidia Optimus technology also helps save energy, although you shouldn’t expect major improvements.
The Asus ROG Strix G17 gaming laptop was a pleasant surprise - a very powerful processor and video card can cope with any games, even the newest ones.
In this aspect, the G17 is not inferior to some models, which cost one and a half to two times more. There are a lot of connectors on the case, and the 17-inch display with a huge frequency of 240 Hz performs great in games. The weakest point of the laptop is its battery life, because the battery runs out after just three hours.
If this is not a problem for you, the ROG Strix G17 is worth a look.
Should I buy
