Applications in iOS 14 can be tested without installing them on the device

Apple is actively working onthe creation of a new generation of the operating system Apple iOS 14, designed for mobile devices iPhone and iPod. It became known that among the innovations of the operating system, it will be possible to study third-party applications without installing them on the device. To get acquainted with the capabilities of the applications, the user will only need to scan the corresponding QR code. To do this, in iOS 14 there will be a new application programming interface (API) called Clips.

According to information provided by insiders in iOS14, the opportunity will be realized for developers to provide “interactive and dynamic content from applications”, even if the user does not install them. It is assumed that after scanning the QR code, a map will be formed that allows you to work with individual parts of the application. In addition, the user can choose to download the full version of the application from the App Store, or open the interactive interface in this application.

Apple users will be able to test new previews with OpenTable, Yelp, DoorDash, Sony PS2 Second Screen and YouTube.
This feature is similar to the Slices function.implemented in Android, which displays parts of the application in search results and in Google Assistant. In addition, the innovation is similar to Android Instant Apps, which, after activating the link, downloads some part of the application.

According to 9to5Mac, the studied code only deals with the integration of the Clips API with QR codes and it is unclear whether Apple plans to implement the function in Spotlight, Siri and other parts of iOS.
