Apple digital car keys are now available in iOS 13.6 and watchOS 6.8.2

The use of digital technologies significantlysimplifies the operating conditions of modern cars, opening up new opportunities for car owners. Apple introduced digital car keys as part of watchOS 6.2.8, as well as iOS 13.6, which was previously released. Currently, CarKey is only available to iPhone and Apple Watch owners who own a BMW vehicle manufactured after July 1, 2020.

For the first time about the possibility of getting a remote digitalaccess to the car, Apple announced during its WWDC online developer conference late last month. The new function allows using NFC technology to open, block, start and stop any car that supports CarKey.

Now the car owner will be able to transferusing Apple Wallet app your digital key for other users. A maximum of five friends or family members of the owner of the car can use the CarKey together. Using the application, you can create individual profiles for each user, limiting his access levels, for example, prohibiting children from starting a BMW, but allowing them to open the car.

The technology for using CarKey is quite simple- you just need to bring the watch or smartphone to the handle of the car, open the door and place the device on the central Qi charger and press the ignition button to start the car. The function can work even when the smartphone is completely discharged, thanks to the backup power remaining in the device and allowing CarKey to be used for another 5 hours.

The first and so far the only car manufacturerBMW is using the CarKey and has extended the technology to all 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M or Z4 cars produced after July 1, 2020. It is not yet known which companies will support this new Apple feature.
