Apple quietly released an updated 27-inch iMac (5 photos)


Apple has announced a major update for27-inch all-in-one iMac computer. Also, minor changes have affected the younger model iMac with a screen diagonal of 21.5 inches. It is noteworthy that the design of computers remains the same, since most likely the company will change the appearance of devices after the transition to the SoC Apple Silicon system.

Major hardware changes to the iMac lineupAffected, first of all, a model with a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 5 K. For models with a 21.5-inch screen, the developers have prepared only one update, namely the use of solid-state drives SSD.


For the older 27-inch iMacProvides for the use of 10th generation Intel Core processors, including 10-core chips with frequencies of 3.6-5.0 GHz. Also, the computer has an improved camera, the resolution of which has been increased from 720p to 1080p. The additional Apple T2 processor now controls not only security, but also solves the issue of improving the quality of video from the camera. Fusion Drive proprietary storage technology is changing to SSD.

The most dramatic change isthe use of Nano-texture glass, which was first installed on the Apple Pro Display XDR. The iMac's Retina display with 14.7 million pixels, 1 billion colors, and 500 nits of brightness is designed to give you the ultimate computer experience. Nanostructured glass will reduce the amount of glare and will allow you to work with the monitor in any light level. The model with Nano-texture glass will cost $ 500 more.


In the basic configuration, the volume of the storage subsystemthe presented SSD will be equal to 256 GB, and for the top model, the buyer will be able to order an additional SSD system whose volume can be up to 8 TB. The read speed from the SSD will be 3.4 GB / s. The amount of RAM varies from 8 to 128 GB.

To process graphics, iMac will installAMD Radeon 5300 video processors with 4 GB of memory, or 5500XT with 8 GB, depending on the package bundle. You can also order an AMD Radeon Pro 5700 with 8 GB, or 5700XT with 16 GB. The computer also has a wide selection of connectors: four USB 3.1, two Thunderbolt3, Ethernet, an audio jack, and an SDXC card slot with UHS-II support.

The updated iMac will go on sale soontime, and pre-order can already be placed on the official Apple website. The base configurations of the 27-inch Apple iMac are priced at $ 1,800, $ 2,000, or $ 2,300, and the top-end configuration without software and accessories will be $ 8,800.

Apple also announced an update to the iMacPro, in which instead of 8-core processors will be installed 10-core Intel Xeon CPUs with frequencies of 3.0-4.5 GHz. At the same time, the price of the computer will remain at $ 5,000.
