Announcement. Ten-inch readers Onyx Boox Note Air 2 and Onyx Boox Note 5

Newcomers Onyx Boox Note Air 2 and Onyx Boox Note 5 -large, serious and very expensive ten-inch devices with E-Ink screens. I combine them into one piece of news, because they are very similar in their characteristics. Screens of the same diagonal, batteries of the same capacity, etc. The iron filling, most likely, is also one, but this is inaccurate.

Onyx boox note 5

Onyx Boox Note Air 2 is the heirlast year's Onyx Boox Note Air. And Onyx Boox Note 5 is the heir of another last year's device, Onyx Boox Note 3 (they decided to skip the model with number four). Curiously, the heirs are much closer to each other than their ancestors.

Onyx Boox Note Air 2

As you can see, the new readers (as well as theirancestors) look different. The Air2 has a wide bezel on the “left” (along the long edge), while the Note5 has it “on the bottom” (along the short edge). Last year's Note3 had a power button with a built-in fingerprint scanner on a wide bezel. The Note5 also claims to have a scanner, although I don't see any buttons in the official picture. Whether it's a typo, or an artist's mistake, or whether the button has moved sideways - I don't know. The Air series models do not have any fingerprint scanners.

Both readers are super thin, only 5.8 mm. The Note5 weighs 385 grams, the Air2 is heavier at 420 grams.

Hardware and software.Like the Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 that I talked about yesterday, the Air2 and Note5 run on the new platform. Fresh eleventh Android and unnamed octa-core chipset. Smart people write that this is Snapdragon 662 (just under two hundred thousand AnTuTu points). By the standards of e-books, the performance is more than adequate.

Memory. 4 GB of operational, 64 GB of constant. There is no memory card support.

Screens. It's interesting here.I don't think the screens are visually different, but they are. The Note5 uses a plastic backing (“Mobius”), which makes this screen a little harder to crack. Air2 has a traditional glass substrate.

The diagonals of the screens are the same - 10.3 ″.The resolution is high - 1404 × 1872 (227 ppi). Signature illumination Moon Light 2 with color control. The highlight of the screens is two touch layers. Traditional capacitive (as in smartphones and tablets) and induction (Wacom) - for the stylus (the stylus comes with the reader).

Batteries are moderately capacious, 3000 mAh.

Other. USB modern, Type-C.Dual band Wi-Fi. There is Bluetooth 5.0 - in case you suddenly want to listen to sounds from the device (music, audiobooks, etc.). There are stereo speakers and even a microphone.

Foreign prices announced.Onyx Boox Note Air 2 will cost $ 499.99 (₽35,500). Onyx Boox Note 5 is slightly more expensive - $ 569.99 (₽40,500). How much reading rooms will cost in Russia (and whether they will reach us at all) is still unknown.
