Announcement. Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 - thirteen inches of e-ink and new hardware

It is interesting from the outside to observe how Onyx works, how their line of ink readers are developing. Slowly, confidently, consistently.

Apparently, it's time to change the hardwareplatforms. The guys at Onyx are simple. They choose a chipset, adapt a certain version of Android to it. After that, they begin to stamp their new devices on this combination of hardware and software. Time passes, the platform is declared obsolete, a new one appears.

The previous generation of Onyx readers came toa bundle of the 2017 Snapdragon 636 chipset and the tenth Android. Now Android has been updated to the eleventh version. And the chipset? Officially, Onyx only announces that it is now different and more powerful. According to unofficial data, Onyx switched to a much more recent Snapdragon 662 chip. The performance increase, judging by the AnTuTu scores, is small. It was in the region of 140 thousand, it became about 180 thousand. But the chipset is really much more modern - just last year's. And, most importantly, it is still actively used by smartphone manufacturers. Those. issued, i.e. you can buy it. And the stocks of the ancient Snapdragon 636, I suspect, just came to an end and there is nowhere to replenish them. And there is no particular sense in this.

Apart from the platform change, there are no significant differences between the new Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 and last year's Onyx Boox Max Lumi. The memory has just been added, now there is a lot of it.

About the characteristics.

Screen. Electronic ink E-Ink Mobius Carta.Huge size - 13.3 ″ (slightly smaller than a sheet of A4 paper). The resolution is high - 1650 × 2200 (207 ppi). Signature illumination Moon Light 2 with color control. The highlight is the two sensory layers. Traditional capacitive (as in smartphones and tablets) and induction (Wacom) - for the stylus (the stylus comes with the reader).

I have already said about the iron filling. It's not particularly impressive by smartphone standards. But for a device you won't be playing or watching videos on, it's more than enough.

There is a lot of memory even by smartphone standards.6 GB of operational, 128 GB of constant. There is no memory card support. But you can connect flash drives and external drives via USB. Like its predecessor, there is a special tiny adapter for Micro-SD cards in the kit. Insert the card into it, and stick it into the USB connector.

The battery is capacious, 4300 mAh.

Other. USB modern, Type-C.There is a fingerprint scanner (built into the button under the screen). Dual band Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 5.0 - in case you suddenly want to listen to music from your device. Stereo speakers. Microphone.

Dimensions have not changed one iota and still inspire respect. 570 grams of weight, 310 x 228 x 7.9 mm.

Foreign price announced. $ 879.99 (₽62500).Well, how much Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 will cost in Russia is still unknown. Most likely about the same as the Onyx Boox Max Lumi, which can now be purchased for ₽84,990 ($ 1200).
